Not sure if you are in Victoria but Borders opened on Lygon street Carlton right over the road from Readings. I reckoned at the time that that would be it for readings but they are still there and Borders are going out of business. Readings is always packed and people buy books there which they just wouldn't want to read in electronic form. People go there to browse after dinner and before their movie. I don't see them losing as long as they can keep the crowds coming in.
but I see us either becoming a socialist nation that redistributes the wealth created by automation, or a third world hell hole were 1% of the population has everything and the other 99% fights among themselves for the scraps so they don't die in the streets.
The third option is to ramp up education to the point where your workforce can compete in the new environment.
One example: Darlie toothpaste Its a very popular brand in Malaysia. But as a counterpoint, when I was working in Korea I saw a lot of African-American men with Korean girlfriends. Race didn't seem to be much of an issue there.
WTF are you talking about? HTTP requires an inbound connection from the client to the server, and the session is always controlled by the client, but the data can flow as strongly as desired in either direction. I routinely use an HTTPS-based file transfer tool that I wrote some 10 years ago to transfer files of any size, well into the GBs from the client to the server. (it's called POST and isn't particularly tough to do)
I think that's the problem - you use a tool that you wrote. Whenever that tool is available pretty much out of the box for nearly every operating system out there, then HTTP will replace FTP for file transfers.
I know a lot of architectural practices who operate FTP servers so they can access files remotely. They could use something like WebDAV instead. I think it is just momentum which ties them to old protocols.
Refrigerated air might be best. Cool it before it passes through the system, so it can remove more heat. Of course you either pay for the energy to pre-cool the air, or you locate your data centre somewhere very cold. If thats not good enough you could look at supercharging. Compress the air around the system. That increases density and heat capacity.
I had a different 6502 system. It came with a one page rundown of 6502 machine code. With that information I taught myself to hand assemble machine code. I doubt I could have done that on a Z80. The 6502 was a fantastic proto-RISC processor.
Considering the size of the wiring diagramS for my Osbourne, I'm kinda doubting that. Also my ][e had no such info. Clarification please? Like was it a block diagram for the slots 'n' ports or suchlike?
I have no idea - I couldn't then (and can't now) read wiring diagrams. *shrug* It was an Apple//e - the first version, not the later one with a numeric keypad.
We had Apple ][s at high school. I made a joystick for it by interfacing to an IC socket at the back of the motherboard. I don't recall where I got the information but I am certain it didn't come from google;)
If the US had been first to fly an astronaut I suspect the USSR would have been slightly more likely to make the first landing on the moon. They would have been more motivated, but their integration ability was (and is) pretty poor.I would argue that this is a reflection of top-down architecture in their politics and engineering culture. They are more likely to say we will build a single system to do X where the US would say we will build systems to do A, B and C; then we will put them together to accomplish X.
In fact, it remains a mystery how the drug could have this effect: its half life is only a few days, and it really should be ceasing any effect within that time. At least one doctor (Dr Alan Jacobs, a neuroendocrinologist in NYC) is speculating that Propecia is inducing permanent changes to the expression of genes governing the androgen system. IANAD so I express no view on that.
Maybe sex is like other sorts of exercise. If you stop, it can be difficult to start again. Or your partner loses interest and its difficult to get her started again.
I set up an old laptop for my mother. It runs ubuntu and goes online through a 3G connection. I loaded it with links to news, social networks and blogs but her favourite application by far is the local weather radar. She has a big garden where she spends much of her time and knowing what weather is coming is really useful for her. I am now looking out for a tablet with a screen which is positively easy to read in bright sunlight. Something like fast e-ink would be ideal. Then she can spend more time where she likes, not sitting at a desk, which she did for her whole career.
If the FAA is shut down then twitter could be used to transmit ICAO messages (FPL, CHG, APR, etc) and mobile pbone use on aircraft could be made compulsory.
"I am going to be a lawyer!" or "I am going to be a stock broker".
Hey don't underrate the entertainment business.
But what will you do about the over supply of leaves?

(Actually read that story yesterday. On real paper.)
I am going to have to scan my Heinlein juveniles if my son is going to be able to read them. The paperbacks are falling to bits.

kim chee
C'mon be thankful it wasn't durian.
I don't know where I would be without it.
Gee I'd be doing really well if it was once a week.
Sadly HTTP is mostly one way

When talking about FTP its not far removed from running a transparent http proxy. Thats used all over the place.
Is there any tech still in widespread use that is that old or older?
How about uucp?
Least of our problems.
I wonder what gasses can be used instead of oil?

Yippee. Yet another Australian "story".
Just what we needed.
Its a story from the land down under.
Where systems blow and denials thunder.
Careful there. You are making me remember the flute riff and that could be expensive for both of us.
No.

Huh? What's still flying? Apollo or Soyuz? The latter is probably the most flexible bit of space hardware known.
Apollo flew to the moon, hauling a Lander along the way. Soyuz has only ever flown in low Earth orbit.
The first men in space was big as well but easily diminished because it was essentially a ballistic shot not a real space trip.
Vostok_1 flew a full orbit with a re-entry burn. Without that burn it would have flown many more orbits. Freedom_7 flew a simple ballistic trajectory.

I still think PJ should hand it to someone else she trusts to carry on
Or sell the site. I never understood why Bruce shut Technocrat down. Why take your bat and ball and go home if you can get a few bucks for them?
Just solder your fancy button to an existing button on an existing keyboard, then re-map that key to your requirements.

Not even if you use antimatter?
