  1. Yeah I know right. I've had my Yahoo! email address for over 15 years. I sure hope I get to keep it....even though I seem to get a few snickers when I give it to people. DonkeyPunchMe@Altaba.com just doesn't have the same ring to it.

  3. You can get the age of any politician by going to wikipedia. This has never been hidden.

I know. Same thing with actors. This law bans this information on sites that offer paid subscriptions, which Wikipedia doesn't. I guess a good example would be LinkedIn asking for an age on a resume that you submit, and them also offering a paid monthly subscription model (LinkedIn doesn't ask for this information, to the best of my knowledge)....at least that's what it sounds like. If someone were to post a politician's birth date on LinkedIn, would this now make them liable to remove it because they offer a subscription service?

  4. there is nothing private or sensitive about the age of actors or other public figures

If you think this is bad, just wait until they start going after the sites that give out the ages of politicians. I expect there to be quite a bit more backlash.

  12. The current Ford CEO is nothing like Henry Ford and looks forward to trying to further his interests without union labor.

I'm not sure I follow you. Henry Ford fought unionization to the bitter end. Ford didn't sign a UAW contract until 1941, just a few years before he died. They were the last of the big three to do so.

Take a look at who the UAW supported in this election (and the past ones as well). Considering that Michigan went Trump, they may want to reconsider who they support versus who their members have in mind if they wish to stay relevant.

  14. It's time to take back farming from the huge corporate agricultural entities.

How does urban farming fix this? I would think most real estate in big cities is going to be owned by corporate developers. I don't think people living on rent control are going to be the ones owning their small plot of farmland.

If they didn't happen to hold the phone that way, why would they even think to try?

That tells me that their testing method is flawed, and they admitted it by changing their recommendation after it was discovered.

By that logic, parents who bought Aquadots [wikipedia.org] for their children should have first eaten some of the beads to check if they had psychoactive drugs in them (i.e. why would they have any reason to suspect such a thing?)

That's.....wow. Maybe it's because you're not supposed to eat aquadots. You are supposed to be able to hold a phone without it losing signal.

I'd agree with you except for the case of the iPhone 4. They initially recommended it, but then changed that after antenna gate was revealed.

The antenna was definitely an issue, but Consumer Reports missed it during their testing. What made them change their mind was when someone else discovered it. If the "hold it wrong" test was that important to make them change their minds on it, why didn't they do it initially? If the average consumer could potentially hold the phone in a manner that makes it malfunction, how did they not see that happen in their first round of testing?

(their current unemployment rate is hovering above 8.5%; https://ycharts.com/indicators...)

What I'm wondering is if any of those 2,000 "random" people will be folks who are retired and wouldn't have any other source of income anyways.

  20. What I said was in no-way meant to be offensive, so I apologize if I came across that way. Just like all industries, government has those that work-hard as well as those who are dead-weight.

Full-time employees are difficult to fire, but contractors are easy to fire.

That's more in line with the point I was trying to make. Government employees tend to have a fairly high degree of job security; the contractors working on government projects, not so much.

  21. And let me guess...you got a job in government IT?

I have no idea where this guy got this idea. I've spent over a decade working alongside State governments, and it's damn near impossible to fire or layoff a government employee.

I've sorta seen the the same thing. I've been using DD-WRT on Linksys access points for years. I don't use them for my router, I have a pfSense box for that.....the Linksys is strictly for wifi. I recently upgraded from a Linksys E3000 to a WRT1200AC so that I could upgrade from 802.11N to AC. The first thing I did was install DD-WRT on it.

The thing would have a hard-crash about half-way through streaming a 2-hour Netflix movie. I didn't have these problems with the E3000, so my first thought was that it was a problem with the WRT1200AC....but I don't have these problems when putting the stock firmware back on it.

I need to revisit it and see if there are some settings I need to play with in DD-WRT, but there is something to be said about the stock firmware that "just works".
