Sweet then. I do recall that some of these brands and models use TiVo models. Is this the case or are they using their own? I will look into them deeper when the time comes (could be years).
Ahh, I am on Pacific zone so I have never seen The Simpsons get pushed back like that. Is that pad recordings automatic or user has to do that? Bascially, can TiVo and others automatically detect the show is being late due to sport games or whatever?
Heh, I use a VCR and I rarely have this problem because I always check the TV guide and compare. I have had heard people, with TiVo, get their recordings messed up (e.g., missing the last few minutes, etc.). I always try to make 5 minutes and 5 minutes after the TV shows I record if possible so I won't miss anything.
I also use the old fashion VCR and my computer (HDTV only; not 24/7 so I turn it off when I don't use it). I think once my VCR dies, I am jumping to a PVR that doesn't use subscription. I live in USA and don't have cable and satellite TV. Just the good old fashion rabbit ears and bowtie antenna. I still use a 10 years old 19" CRT TV. I will get a small HDTV when it dies.
I was thinking of getting a DVD recorder, but I heard it is not very good because it skips or something? Also, short recording time especially for HDTV (if I ever get it)? I don't want to use my computer for recordings because I don't like to leave my machines on when I am not at home. I prefer a hardware recorder like the VCR. I don't need a fancy scheduler with TV guides like TiVo and Replay.
Some news websites have written that QTA is doomed because we removed links to it. However, we have no control over what the creators of QTA do. Even if they would decide to stop making new versions, which is likely to happen, this does not automatically mean that there won't be any trimmed down mods of QuickTime available in the future. Creating such a pack is no rocket science. So anyone with a few ounces computer skills can make something similar. In fact, many of such packs already exist. QTA Monday - June 4
Download links to QuickTime Alternative have been removed at kind request of Apple. Even though this site does not host any downloads, we have have decided to just remove all links, even indirect ones, and get on with life. QT is a slow and sometimes also buggy piece of software anyway.
The K-Lite Codec Pack is fully capable of playing.mov files. In fact, HD trailers will play with much better performance with the open-source decoders that are included in KLCP than with QuickTime Player.
However, playing QuickTime content inside your webbrowser requires QuickTime to be installed. We will soon provide a detailed guide describing how you should install and configure QuickTime for the best user experience with the least annoyances.
Those who seek QTA can find it on dozens of other websites. There also exist several other packs containing QT components, just to name a few: QTLite, Vista C.P., ACE M.C.P., Storm C., MUSK C.P., Satsuki QT module, and even a binary C.P. addon for MPlayer.
Vandyke's CRT and SecureCRT, and SyncTERM have Z-Modem support. I still use rz and sz commands in these clients to upload and download off Linux and UNIX systems. It beats scp.exe, sftp, etc. AND I can resume too. I wished PuTTY would add it, but they won't so far.
But don't buy it overpriced. In fact, see if you can borrow/buy cheaper copy. I didn't register my account with my original one. I used another name so I could give/sell it away. I did that on purpose because I knew the episode would have zero replayability.
I was searching for "Mr. Wizard" on Google Video for some cool clips and even episodes, and stumbled this interview that you people might be interested:
"In his four-part (each part is posted separately) oral history interview, host Don Herbert describes his early years as an actor on stage... all and radio before turning to television where he created the classic children's science series "Watch Mr. Wizard". He details his hosting of the show, as well as working with his young assistants. He talked about his simultaneous work as "G.E. Theatre's" "progress reporter," hosting a different three-minute commercial segment for each episode through the majority of run. He talks about the later incarnations of the "Mr. Wizard" franchise. He also mentions his appearances on morning and late-night television talk shows."
I was hoping to see some behind the scene photographs of Adam Savage working on this movie. :)

Just unplug the printer so the Windows software can't bug you. ;)
See here. It didn't excite me though. :(
Aren't these PVRs subscription based? I don't want to pay for subscription to use them.

Million? Don't be cheap. :)
... have him become angry and throw some chairs. Those are always fun to watch. [grin]
Come on, this MS! Demand for 1 billion U.S. dollars!
Ronald Regan, is that you? I thought you're dead. ;)
Heh, I am not a developer/coder. Are you good at it to do one?
I assume Apple based on "Monday - June 4 ... Download links to QuickTime Alternative have been removed at kind request of Apple..."
I belive QTA uses mp4 codecs and h.264. That's probably why Apple shut the project down. :(
There are a lot on Google Videos. I would like to see more since I am partially deaf and can't hear well as well.
QuickTime Standalone or better, QuickTime Alternative v1.81 (a recent project went dead according to Codec Guide):

Is there a copy of this advertisement online?

How about books? [grin] :)
Or here.
Another problem is the latencies. Forget gaming like WoW on it. I know people who WoW on 56k modems.
