The KDE and Debian ones seem fairly cool. However I'd have to say that the boot screen for Windows Whistler leaves them all in the dust in terms of coolness;) (Plus Whistler's XDM login type screen implimentation is really neat looking)
How long before we see distributions package their own boot screen with the OS install?
This is absolute bullshit.
1. You insinuate that they really had those 800 licenses. Riiight... yet another little guy being kicked around by "Big Brother" @_@
2. Anyone who's spewing nonsense about having them switch to Linux obviously doesn't realize the cost of moving an organization from one operating system to another.
3. Microsoft was in the right here, they enforced their licensing clause. Get over it.
So what prevents you from turning off the new start menu? Or displaying your files in explorer via a list? You realize that explorer is completely customizable via html correct? You can make any folder look like anything you want provided you have fair html knowledge
Well, I guess you forget the Corel GPL fiasco. The grass is the same color on both sides of the fence, don't think you're any better. Both sides wish to enforce their licensing methods. Microsoft simply has more financial backing to enforce theirs
Thanks, but I'd rather run them under Windows 2000, as well as several thousand other Windows applications. Use the right tool for the right job. The linux community is better off creating their own tools (i.e. KOffice) then trying to create a bogus windowing environment which will run notepad.exe 50% of the time
Well, I'll be the first to say that @home sucks like no tommorow. I was one of their first beta testers, and had stuck in until half a year ago when I finally couldn't take their ex-taco bell phone support anymore. Having to stay on hold for twenty minutes in order to get transferred to someone who knows what "traceroute" is bites.
However, one thing @home didn't do is silly things like this. Please, you want an ISP to infringe upon your freedom and dictate what kind of traffic can come in, and can't come out? Hey that's nice and all, but I'd rather have the freedom to setup a firewall for myself, I don't need my ISP to do that for me. For a website who talks about freedom so much, this is a pretty bogus idea
Oh RMS is definately right, in his own mind that is. My freedoms are described in The Constitution of the United States, the country I am currently a citizen of.
I am already free, are you? According to RMS, we'll never be free until all software meets _his_ guidelines. Sure sounds like your friendly neighborhood dictator to me.
This attitude of RMS honestly makes me want to vomit. Freedom does not come with a GNU label or with RMS's seal of approval. My advice to the game developer is to do what will benefit his customers, not what will appease some egomaniac with a cult following. Speaking to RMS on these issues is an obvious waste of time judging by these responses.
I wonder if RMS refuses to use all forms of non-free software, i.e. bank terminals, electronic watches, etc... That would be quite a hoot!

Q. Does the RIAA want to make MP3s illegal?
A. No. MP3 is simply a compression technology. Its use has had a very positive impact in terms of allowing the music industry to discover consumer interest in online music. At the same time, the RIAA has had some concern with this technology, arising from the fact that it can be used to distribute pirated copies of music. The RIAA does not endorse - or veto - the technologies that its members use to promote and distribute their recordings. Several of our members have used different formats to electronically distribute their music. MP3 is a 1992 technology and it appears likely based on current industry trends that its use will be supplanted by newer, faster, higher quality technology that also offers the ability to protect copyrights when desired.

I fail to see why the last quip regarding the music industry was needed. IIRC they have a problem with pirating of their product, not the MP3 format itself.
What if some of us don't want your Free OS installed on there? Maybe we want BeOS? Maybe we want Windows 2000?
Here's a silly question, how many major Linux based computer companies sell Linux for free with their systems? Last time I checked, a lot of companies bundled retail Redhat boxes with their systems, which means your OS isn't so "Free"
Secondly, this feature has existed for quite a while now. It allows you to open a remote Windows session. It's present in Windows NT Terminal Server edition, and Windows 2000 Server and up. Windows Whistler comes with it built in.
Hmm you mean kind of like when there's a Linux poll and Slashdot announces it? Then all the Slashdot readers run like rabid dogs over to the website to vote for linux? I think we've all witnessed that several times.
So are you upset over the fact that some online Windows magazine beat you to the punch of rigging the results or something?
That's a hillarious statement. Exactly how did Windows DVD players come to be? Follow the licensing trail like everyone else instead of complaining about not getting stuff for free. Hell, even QNX has a software DVD player.
If more time was spent getting things done then fighting over self imagined free speech issue, Linux would've had full DVD support a long time ago.
What does microsoft have to do with any of this? Easy to use programs exist for Linux, MacOS, BeOS, etc... Nice to know you've determined that the ony right way is your way.
I have a ten page paper to type up later tonight, should I abandon the evil Microsoft ways and do it in vi instead of Word? Would this be acceptable for you cli d00d?
And isn't it amsuing how their "inferior" products have gobbled up more market share then all the "superior" ones? Maybe you need to change your definitions around a bit. It is the victor who is superior, it is the cry-baby looser who is inferior.
It's interesting to note that all the Linux Myths listed on the page are negative in nature. This is essentially the reverse of Microsoft's "Linux Myths" website.
How about a website which tells people the full story?
Ahh..my baby :) Should've gotten a better shot of the MacOS X kde theme though

Right! Just like the telnet package which ships with all the unixes allows for crackers to rm -rf / ?
Real bright there.
So what prevents you from turning off the new start menu? Or displaying your files in explorer via a list? You realize that explorer is completely customizable via html correct? You can make any folder look like anything you want provided you have fair html knowledge
How can microsoft enforce their licensing agreement if they are unable to audit a computer?
"Aren't you glad you use Open Source?"

Of course they're lying, right?

Hm, doesn't sound any different from Movie ratings, why isn't the Slashdot Podium Brigade arguing against those?
Anyone else notice that whenever the Slashdot editorial crew likes something, and it gets restricted, they spin it off as an issue of free speech?
I'm just glad they're not advocating cocaine usage as freedom of self-expression, although I'm sure that's soon to follow!
Keep up the good fight guys!

It's actually much nicer then X in my opinion for running a whole remote desktop instead of a single application.
Over a LAN there's virtually no slow-down
Clients exist for all Windows OS 9x, NT4, Win2K(And WinCE I think?)
First off, it's "Windows" not Windose.

I'm Bill Gates? Wow, I wish! But hey, it's nice to know that paranoia has such a grip on you. Fight on Penguinista!

Jurrasic park has come true. An extinct species is now being brought back...could dinosaurs be next?
Uh...480 Megabytes per second? I guess we can scrap all these fibrechannel arrays right?
