Thanks, you made my point: Obviously you don't watch a lot of Sunday morning television or the Trinity Broadcasting Network, on your TV with rabbit ears.

You're right, I don't and you obviously don't make ignorant, broad generalizations about groups of people whose intelligence you like to think you surpass. Nor are you quick to judge someone as a religious zealot when they don't share your opinions.
I actually agree with you about the blinders. I just simply didn't see the need to call out one group of people and than generalize them while subtlety calling them stupid. I didn't respond with a lecture about insulting christians or even anything at all to do with religion. In my response I even included myself in the technical elite!
I would have had the same reaction regardless of the group you called out, whether it be African Americans, fat people or whatever. I take issue with your argument, not its subject matter.
My point is that our continued use of the television is not the fault of any one group of people, religious, stupid or otherwise. I apologize if you missed that while making yourself feel superior to my alleged religious views.

The problem here is that we are the technical elete, and many of us have blinders on that prevent us from seeing the significant number of people who do not have these types of computer based solutions, nor want them. As long as they exist and keep sending money to Jesus and buying things as seen on TV, TV the way we know it now will continue to exist. Too much money in it.
I'm sorry, but what does Jesus have to do with anything? Are you really trying to say that the only people who still watch TV are those that believe in a god, and that we, as the "technical elete" are smarter?
I'm all for teaching evolution but would someone please explain to me what the issue was with teaching the strengths and weaknesses?
If science teaches us anything it is that we should always continue to question and refine our studies, not idly stand by and accept them as fact.
No one is saying we have to introduce creationism or try to make evolution appear only as a theory (which some might argue it still is), but there is no reason we need to teach our students to blindly accept it as fact, without doubt or admission of weakness.
This is not the spirit of science and frankly not in the best interest for those who probably already don't care that much about it.
Whats gives?
This could be a real boon to space exploration. Temperature extremes and radiation are two of the most common problems that must be dealt with when designing exploratory vehicles. This could simplify things greatly.
Wouldn't a dedicated server provide what you need? Upload your recovery files once and than have the server transfer them to each client at high speed. Simple and cost effective.

This is a great time for the chinease to make an issue out of this. When blu-ray and HD-DVD become available the consortiums will think twice before trying to rip them off again. I guess they are just ensuring that this doesnt happen to them again.
I read it in a chain E-mail and thats the way it was written. It didnt have an authors name next to it but im sure it was from the same quote you are writing about. But since the words are different does that not make it a different "quote"? Also i never claimed that i wrote it, so don't tell me im "passing others work as my own", it was an honest mistake. however i like the actual quote better, im going to change it to that, thank you for pointing it out.
I just read a recent report that said smartphones with pocket PC capabilities, sale numbers rose an average of 120% while smartphones have only gained about 6% growth. IMO pocket PC's wont be around much longer, it just makes more sense to include the features in cellphones, i really dont want to pay $300+ for somthing im most likely going to keep notes and addresses in. And i think its clear which side the public is on. Death to pocket PC's, long live the smartphone!
I would like to see something like what opera has with web page magnification. Its on firefox too but you cant make images any bigger then they already are like you can with opera. But i still like FF better.
This would be the perfect place to start building some hydrogen gas stations to jumpstart the hydrogen infastructure. $185 Billion dollars for a highway, the least they could do is promote clean driving. If this is going to change the way highways are built it would be a good idea if they could be built cleaner.
Whatever difference is made by donations via the information age will be sucked up by the red cross for their salary just like they did during the 9/11 attacks.
I am inclined to say that most people would not be interested in a robotics fair or programming fair. It seems to me that most people in high school do not want to take the time to learn anything about a *new field*. I guess the best way to put it is to say that most of them are lazy. These things may spark their interest but if its something that they have to take time to learn then they will not give it a second look. I was interested in computers at age 12 and pursued my dream of owning my own computer. I dont live in a family that buys there kids everything so recieving a $500+ computer was out of the question. I started reading computer magazines and gradually taught myself the I/O (ins and outs, pardon the pun;). I then built my own computer for $800 saved up from a summer job, mind you it would have cost over $1500 froma retailer. I had my problems tho. I ruined a $200 mobo/cpu combo by electric shock from nt touching metal or wearing an anti-static wristband. I also had problems with my harddrive which taught me a huge deal about diagnosing and fixing them. That curiosity led me to want to learn everything i could about computers . Now, the people saying that kids are afraid of being labeled a geek are mistaken. In this day and age it is not looked down upon in the way i see it. People look in awe toward you because you know such a skill, not to mention the admiration from teachers and adults. From my experience i find that once people see the cool side of computers it does spark some interest. I've shown people case mods and they we're astounded. People have called me a geek but its not in the derogatory sense. People come to me for help with their PC's and often want to learn. It seems once they relize the advantages of knowing your way around the PC they take an effort to learn more. But most people are caught up in the world of being a teen, partying and hanging out. Im not a total shut-out geek, i have friends and i skateboard so i have a wide range of friends. This year for community service i have taken on the role of IT head, and fix my schools computers and their network. mind you its a small school of only 150 students but the experience is going to carry me a longway in customer relations and job experience. I dont think you can get many people interested in tech at such a late time, but it is worth a try. In fact, i know a student whom i sit next to in alegebra class who straight fails every subject. But, he will sit their and program games onto his ti-85 computer in under 15 mins. I've told him that he shoudl pursue programming as it would come so easily to him but he just doesnt want to put forth the effort. I hope that you come up with an idea to spark an interest with kids but until its somthing that they can pick up in 15 mins like a video game i dont see them taking an interest in any of it.
First off, computers in general have been a great learning experience for me. When i was 13 i wanted a computer badly, everyone had one but me. But my parents, being, well,....parents, wouldnt buy me one. So i started to pick up everything on computers i could find and taught myself by reading computer magazines like CPU and Maximum PC how to not only build a computer, but a pretty kick ass one at that. Im still on it to this day.
Sure i was only 14 when i built my first computer, and yes i did screw up a $300 mobo and cpu combo due to static, but it was a great learning experience. Soon after i built my best friend a fairly decent computer for $300 (of course the software was pirated) and he still uses it. Im now the PC technician at the small private school i go to, and am quickly earning my 90 hours of community service hours needed to graduate. Next year, at age 17 i will be going to part time college courses to get my A+ cert. while still going to a few high school classes.
Now, you must understand that my handwritting is very poor and i hate librarys. Since i've had a computer the typing of papers alone has raised all my grades. Not to mention the huge amount of info i can grab off the internet at any given time for a paper.
Sure i play some games, and i watch movies, and listen to music, but as with anyone with a PC should know, you have time for work and time for play and you must distinguish those times with yourself or you will never get anything done.
My point is, dont blame computers for the decrease in learning skills in kids. If someone wants to do well in school he has the full potential to do so. Do you think if you took away a childs computer they would thinkn "gee, what am i to do now? I guess i'll go study for that chemistry test tomorrow." No, of course not, they would find another thing to distract themself because they simply dont care or the parents arent inforcing any good rules. What you want to learn is up to you, not the distractions around you.

OK but......one of the greatest features of VOIP is its quality, why am i gona get VOIP and pay for quality that is below the technologies already the standard. To take full advantage of VOIP you need the bandwidth.
What about bandwidth? From what im seeing, the required upload stream is at least 90KbitsPS+ http://www.voicepulse.com/learn/TechnicalRequireme nts.aspx and in some cases more(although they say 40K can be used with degraded quality). I cant speak for all the broadband users but in my own experience with comcast, they only offer 256K and i know of others that only offer as little as 128K up. Now, for the person who *uploads* alot;), how is this going to work out? Is there a switching technology built in that allows the uploads on your computer to decrease when a call comes in? Now the obvious solution would be to get a faster internet provider, but sadly, that is all that is offered in my area [OC,MD]. The broadband needs to offer more before the masses(of geeks anyway) will join up with VOIP. Other then this lil problem, i think VOIP is amazing and will one day take over regular phone tech.
