Sorry DoCoMo, this is just news grabbing tosh. Lets see how they did this.
The origional trials using OFDM achieved 100Mb/s were achieved by using 100Mhz of bandwidth. Thats 1bit/hz efficiency. Unless they will use n=1 (1 frequency re-used across cells) then they will need a minimum of 4 100Mhz channels. Now then, this 1Gb/s stuff likely uses something better than 1bit/hz say with QAM64. But those highorder modulation schemes require very good receivers and excelent signals with very little noise. This is very hard to do even if your the primary spectrum user as you will get interfearence from neighbouring cells and customers using the network.
In trials is completely meaningless. The trials would have very likely been a single cell and a single customer device (mobile phone or whatever). As soon as they add more customers, cells and therefore interfearence then the whole thing will degrade into a right old mess and they will be unable to achieve these 'blistering' data rates they announce.
Besides that, who has 100Mhz of spectrum spare!?
We aint going to be seeing 100Mb/s to anybodys phones any time soon. It's hard enough getting 1Mb/s to customers 1Km away using tiny CPE with tiny antennas in an office block surrounded by steel, concrete and noise.
P.S. Yes, I do work for a wireless broadband company.
This guy still runs Windows 3.1 on a 386 too and I expect he will never upgrade from dialup, his old chevvy or his clothes. Flares do the job just fine, as to anoraks and proper gentlemans socks.;-)
I would like a modded HP toner+drum cartridge that randomly shreds documents. Then I could cause much hilarity in the office as the presentation-making, paper-shifting, twoddle-spouting marketing types try to print off their presentations 5 minutes before their meetings.
Junk food does not make you fat, it's all down to fresh OJ,
smoking can help you to live longer (assuming you do not get lung cancer) and being in a road accident helps reduce the signs of aging.
Christians do not want to replace textbooks with Bibles at all. Christians would like proper credence paid to differing viewpoints and a return to basic ethics and morals the lack of which are destroying a country.
Some of the most influential scientists such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Boyle, Faraday and Pasteur. I agree however that there are people who are not Christians and they also need to live in this society which is why there is freedom of religion (or lack thereof).
Anyhow, what exactly would be wrong with a Christian republic?
I know I already commented on this but..
The very idea of Microsoft engaging in a FACTS based analysis of ANYTHING is nothing short of hilarious!. Maybe just MAYBE there is one person who would engage in a fact but the rest of the spin, FUD generation, bogonified corporate money making monopoly machinary of the company would soon have rid of it.
Really, if it were another month I'd think this was an April Fools joke!
Indeed, but generally I would say that 1 person = 1 cpu, apart from shared cpus such as in schools, web cafes and such. But I guess that a combination of IP address and Browser information can pretty much od that already.
OK, so what is really needed is a RFID implant - take yer CPUID with you, then software can really be licensed to a PERSON rather that a processor. Pay Amazon every time you click(tm) on a link(tm).
Sending your PCs unique CPUID along with every HTTP request would be ideal for this. You could also group up websites and use this to track people across websites. It would be great for marketing and for law enforcement.
Oh, you all disabled your nice Intel CPUID? Why ever would you want to do that?
Let me see:
"facts-based analysis of Linux and Windows."
I really don't think that the word fact and microsoft belong in the same sentence where Linux comparisons are concerned. Now, if this was Microsoft wanting to work with OSDL on a common driver architecture, DRM or some kind of Windows/Linux_whatever API integration then that's something else.
Why would MS want to work with OSDL on a 'facts based comparison' ? Because they want the facts to turn their way and I am sure they have some kinf of evil plan along this line.
OSDL, run far far away from this.
Yeah well, I did that too but I sent the output anonymously to the whole school (whose email addresses were conveniently listed in the GECOS).
We also had a problem on a RADIUS server recently and we had to dump passwords to a file to fix it. A quick sort -u and guess what the most popular password was? Go on guess..
Family? I made my wife use OSX, she loves it and has not touched the Windows box (available via RDP) for, well, about a year now.
Also that orrible office suite is available on OSX as well as good games so, now you have no excuse do you:) I'll look forward to your article How I switched from Windows to OSX on/. soon.
Windows is awesome, because it's already done being made.
Which is why there is Windows 95, 98, 98 2nd edition, 2000, 2003, XP, NT, 2003 gold enterprise server plus pack edition 2, endless huge service packs.
I also gotta ask, what kind of geek friends do yu have that only use Linux to "Tinker with an OS that gives you complete control of your Computer" Sheesh, you gotta get some better geek friends dude!
I had no idea Myth TV was so darn good. Does anybody know if theire is a 'plug'n'play' (umm, too many ' there and yeah, I hate that term too) Myth TV distros out there, something that just does Myth TV and nothing else? That would be pretty cool.
Back to the real article, I have been using Linux for my main boxes for years now (Since umm, 1995ish) and converted from Windows, erm, 3.1 Hell, it's (Linux) moved on since then. I'd be interested in a similar article about somebody who switched from Windows to OSX (on anything).
OK, I agree that video games are not the sole cause. But exposing influenceable children to violence does not help. Family breakdown is, I'd say, the main cause of the breakdown of society.
I live in the inner city in London in one of the poorest areas in the UK, we have drugs, celibrity murders, the lot. This is not severe poverty. These people are housed, they have food and get medical treatment if they need it. Goodle for London poverty int he 1800s especially around spitalfields in London, thats real poverty.
Differant circumstances. That era was infested with poverty, child prostitution was the only way some kids made any money. Their pimps were simply, scum caught in a scum-trap of poverty and a government that chose to look the other way.
Of course the prostitution led to lots of broken families, kids without proper homes and the whole thing was pretty nasty.
Now, we can change things. There is relatively little severe poverty in the West, child prostitution is pretty much gone apart from really bad situations and the government driven by good citizens has to take notice. It is not that you need to do some research, you just need to waks up and smell the coffee - violece breeds violence and thats it. It's about time we stopped showing our kids blood, gore guts and pornography.
This is true. In a family where there are two good parents, some moral and ethical background, discipline and kids who therefore been brought up well then slightly dodgy video games are likely to have little effect.
Unfortunately, most families lack ethical and moral guidance, are single parent families (with insecure kids) and the kids get babysitted by video games and do not manage to make the connection between actions and consequences. Thats where it breaks down.
Notice also that since the 1950s violent crime has increased, single 13year old mums have grown in numbers, kids now go and shoot other kids in schools, in the UK kids hang around in groups and mug old people, kill other kids, mug other kids, kick people to within an inch of their lives whilst recording it on their phones.
So, do you see the relationship here?
It is fairly obvious that exposure to sexually explicit material, violant video games, horror movies and some of the kind of lyrics in rock music will affect people, especially young people who are still developing their brains and the bits that help them control this stuff.

I can see it now, the new penis enlargement spam. Simply grow a new penis on a mouse and attach, it really does work!
Cool, now we can talk to the aliens! Take off your tin foil hats, they don't need to scan your brain any more.

Technology is schools is another fad, just like them computer things and this new fangled Google-o-web thing. It'll never last.
This will join a long list of fads:
Cars, Computers, Bikes, Medicine, Porn.
We'll soon see them trying something new.

about how his idea has developed. Moving from valve oscilators and mixers to digital music synthesizers and samplers...

Apenas acontece assim que eu tenho pouco widget que fará apenas aquele para mim. Assim aqui eu estou afixando em sua língua, portuguese.

Pay /. some money and get the articles early to avoid dissapointment.

Whew, you get 7.1 surrond on it too? Can it add up too?
