For Dutch people this is quite misleading. Sounds like some soccer players (Ajax) have caught a Sexually-transmitted infection - abbreviated as SOA in Dutch.
At least that is what I found out when trying to order a computer game from Amazon. US laws forbid that Amazon shipped the CD's with the game to Europe.
I am not sure if anonymous dissidents can be called dissidents, but i think i know what you mean.
It all depends on what they want. If it is just getting information abroad then i'd suggest to encrypt the message in an image or mp3 and send it to a friend. Hide the message in a nice family picture. The friend will for sure be interested in the health and prosperity of his dissident friend. And let him send a picture of his family back. In short hide the information in a conversation that seems harmless. Be creative, and don't use anything that is obviously encrypted.
If someone really wants to participate in discussions on a forum, well i don't know. That probably isn't a very good idea. Most dissidents want to stay in their country, in order to make a change there (that is why they are called dissidents). But if they really want to live in a free country, they should try to go there. And - how crazy that may sound - that isn't that hard. Just make sure that they are well known as a "political prisoner" and most regimes will happily let them go to avoid further international trouble. Well, it depends a bit on how harsh life in prison is (and how big the chances to survive a couple of years there) under that particular regime. Also many countries have large unwatched borders, which might take a hill or two to cross, but it might be worth it.
US has a monthly trade deficit of 66 billion. US citizens only have more to spend because other countries lend the money. The problem starts of course at the moment that the other countries stop seeing the point of lending ever more money to US citizens.
Where does it say that he downloaded American movies? There are more countries that produce movies - scary huh?. Did you read the article? How is your French?
And even then, he did not "steal" them, he made a financial contribution by paying the tax on empty CD's. So where does the "stealing" come in?
In the Netherlands there's such a site about hookers. One local politician from Amsterdam had to leave politics when it became publicly known that het frequented that site (and the hookers).
First of all it is a matter of principle. VBS just is not consequent. Of course it is silly to do an IsEmpty on a constant, but the code is just to show the inconsequence. Using a variable in stead of a constant gives the same results.
And it also has real-program consequences. If a variable taken from a database is compared Request.Form("somename"), and something should happen if they are equal, then strange things can happen with one being a zero-length-string and the other missing.
It should not be too hard to give all divs and iframes that come from a different domain then the main page a zIndex=-1, that would make them invisible.
Of course that can be changed by javascript, but there should be something to do about that too. Needs some thinking though.
It depends how you look at the statistics. The Dutch Statistical Bureau (CBS) recently published stats on the percentage of households that have a broadband connection. That is of course something different then the number of lines per 100 inhabitants.
The articale (in Dutch) is here.
Some results are:
Iceland: 45%
Denmark 36%
Netherland 32%
Finland 21%
It catches all the events in the page, and then evaluates the element where the event took place and the nature of the event. If it is a click on a "A" element, then something happens. But the script offers actions on other events on other elements too.
The javascript that does that is http://js.eproof.com/1.js (rightclick/download link here)
"The event history server may also record event data descriptive of other types of browsing events, such as impressions (i.e., items presented to users on dynamically generated web pages) and mouse-over events."
Does this mean that Amazon now should be considered to be spyware?
solved after adding http://acvsrv.mediaonenetwork.net/* to adblock.
It was an external javascript from that domain that caused the crash.
I asked others (using WinXP) to open the page i mentioned in Firefox, and they did not experience a crash. I am on win2k here.
I understand that Windows98 is old. But most day-to-day programs do still run on it: lavasoft, firefox, anti-virus programs to mention some. I can understand that new advanced games don't run on it (apart from my hardware being out of date for that). I can even understand that stuff like desktop search requires win2k.
But anti-spyware from Microsoft? I don't see the point.
BTW, when opening windowsupdate from Windows98, i do see the option to install the.NET Framework. Haven't tried installing, but i guess it should install.
Just out of curiosity i downloaded it. I saw some stuff about "genuine windows", and wondered if that is related to "penguin windows". After some further reading i estimated that it had nothing to offer for my Windows98 installation. Yes, I still run Windows98.
I could dowload it without being "genuine". I could not install it. It requires Windows 2000.
Why? Is the program so advanced that it uses features that Windows98 does not have? Or is that a beta-feauture? I feel ignored by Microsoft. I paid for my Windows98. It was long ago, but i paid for it.

Isn't it much easier then to open a random webpage and copy/paste the letters you need from the text with your mouse?

Who is this mister Congress? Does he have a first name? Or is this about a woman?

Are you looking for an excuse for ignorance?
I just hope that it helped to make you realize that there are many things that have nothing to do with America.
This makes no sense at all. Not everything that anyone does on this planet is done to either please or piss off America.
You just strengthened me in my idea that the majority of Americans have no idea about what is going on in the rest of the world. It scares me.

For some unexplained reason VBScript evaluates the expression "" = Empty to True, but IsEmpty("") to False.
The issue has been discussed here

Well, maybe it depends on the version. I have Windows 98 SE, and could install the .NET Framework without any problems.
This is 55% of all internet users, not 55% of population or households. That's a completely different number.

Anyone else noticed that Firefox crashes on the link mentioned http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3189925a28,00. html

The proceedings of the meeting in parliament can be found here (Word document).
The good thing would be that I need just to press CTRFL-F to find whatever i could not find in my car.
