Small, all volunteer organizations with virtually no budget are being hit by this as well. They really can't afford accountants.
I know that these rules are easy to comply with, but they're also easy to miss. Much like rebates and other consumer programs, the system is designed with the idea that many will miss/skip/forget to do the easy tasks that the program requires, and enable the IRS to make money.
They are doing this to many, many non-profit organizations. Quite a few non-profit organizations are being hit by this and the IRS is taking advantage of the general disorganization and small size of a lot of non-profit groups to pocket themselves a tidy sum.
The scam goes like this. New policies enacted by the IRS now require non-profits to fill out a card verifying their non-profit status every three years. Now this is simple and easy to do, but its also simple and easy to forget to do. Its even easier to forget when your organization turns over its treasurer every year or two. Also if your organization is part of a larger national organization, it doesn't matter, the IRS is targeting the smallest unit of every non-profit organization. Membership in larger state and national groups of your non-profit do not cover your smaller group.
The IRS's solution if you forget to register is to allow you to re-register at a later date and pay a FINE.
So that's how the shakedown goes. The IRS is making good money with this enforcement racket that they've created.
While the administration flexed its muscle to get that ban lifted, the import ban was due to ridiculous software patents (ironically, also supported by the government). Two wrongs don't make a right.
Funny how it was incompetent 90% of the time when dealing with organizations of one political persuasion and only incompetent 10% of the time when dealing with organizations of the opposite political persuasion.
The lie that "progressive groups were target too" is partially true, but is only really being brought up to sweep the controversy under the rug. NPR even went so far as to count how much more questioning tea party and patriot got than progressives and how much longer they waited for approval. The IRS was staggeringly biased against conservative groups.
Yep. Us citizens do not get a pass if we "accidentally" break the law. The NSA should not get one either. Plus their definition of "accidentally" is pretty lame and not really that far removed from intentional.
1). We're shocked this happened, we will investigate! 2). Assign investigation to the person/group accused of wrongdoing. 3). Profit????? Well at least pay no price......
Why can't Elon delegate some of this work? He doesn't need to be involved in every aspect of everything. I'd be willing to help with Hyperloop;-) if he asked.
Now if the issue isn't really the time needed, because there are plenty of talented people that could work on this, but the cost then I can be convinced that perhaps the technology to make this really work is just a bit out of the reach of feasibility at this time.
But damn, the hyperloop concept is really cool. I'd have liked to see work progress on it.
John Barroman is actually pitching for a spinoff show with his Captain Jack character traveling through time with River Song.
I would much rather they create a spinoff with a Time Lady than change the Doctor into a woman.
The biggest reason for this is that if they change the Doctor to a woman, the ratings will be big for an episode or two, but then since the whole premise of the show had been upended, ratings will crash and it'll get cancelled.
I'd rather they try out a new show than mess with the concept of the original show.
Bullshit. Or republic was founded by the people. The fact that it is not direct democracy does not mean that they get to pass laws that govern us that we cannot see or execute them in a way that is secret. That is wrong no matter what.
But the government has still never answered that question.
And therein lies the problem, in our Republic, there is an expectation that we the people know how our government operates. We aren't necessarily entitled to all the governments information, but full and complete information oh how our government runs is something a "free" country would be expected to know in detail.
We're nine months from launch and still waiting for any of these games!!
Super Mario Brothers U is a great game, but its out there all alone as a Wii U title from Nintendo. Nine months after release!!
As far as a new Zelda goes, the reason I mentioned it as a FPS is because that could take advantage of finally having HD and make a great looking game. I agree that the story and gameplay would need to be good. Perhaps it could be better as a RPG, but whatever, I want a Zelda game in HD.
As a Wii U owner games I would like to see on the Wii U are:
New Mario Kart New Mario Galaxy New/Relaunched Metroid New Paper Mario game New Mario Party game New Zelda FPS style game
But NONE of these titles exist!! As a long time Nintendo fan, I'd buy all of these, but they didn't even bother to make and have them ready by the Wii U launch!!
Also, the migration from the Wii to the Wii U was so customer hostile that we don't play Wii games on the Wii U, we fire up the Wii and use that. One time, one direction game data transfer!! Fuck that shit!! One of the worst customer decisions ever by Nintendo. On the Wii you could plug in the cartridge from your gamecube to access the saved game data, why the hell won't the Wii U and Wii allow you to move Wii save game data back and forth on a SIM card. Oh, what's that Nintendo? Piracy, you say? Well Fuck you there too! I'm a customer who's fairly committed to your stuff who is getting rapidly disillusioned.
No, its not. It may have the same effect as a subsidy, but its not a subsidy.
Oh and calling tax write-offs that oil companies take over employee benefits and such a "subsidy", when every other type of company can use those same write-offs is being disingenuous.
Obama is only pro-corporate because extremely large businesses are easier to handle through a centrally planned economy.
He has no concept of how small business works and truly sees no real need for them and centrally planning the economy around the small business environment is impossible.
Of course this kind of thinking and action leads to... exactly the same kind of anemic recovery we are experiencing right now.
Yeah, how dare they fully fund the pensions, when they should be funding them like Detroit funded their worker pensions. Oh, wait...
I'm not saying the republicans may not be putting the USPS in a bad spot. But is is really rare for pension funds to be adequately funded and most of those stories end up with the workers promised the pentions being royally screwed..

The better rule of thumb would be that governments exaggerate news such that the exaggeration leads to an increase in their power.
Yes, the units for analogies are human hair, grain of sand, breadbox, car, football field, and internet.
You had me right up until the import ban.
While the administration flexed its muscle to get that ban lifted, the import ban was due to ridiculous software patents (ironically, also supported by the government). Two wrongs don't make a right.
Yeah, Scotland isn't known at all for having any nationalist pride.
It's not like they made a fucking movie about it or anything.....

immoral AND incompetent people.
FTFY

I think Obama would have to change his stance on pandering to unions.
But outside of that, I think you really might have a point.
"this little thing called the Internet ... makes it much harder to govern."
My heart feels for the poor politicians that are having so much of a problem with people having a medium that provides them a voice.
Or maybe it could be that they're doing their "governing" wrong....
Hmmm, I wonder is Clapper will do the same?
Actually, no, I don't wonder, I know he will.
With this administration its always
1). We're shocked this happened, we will investigate!
2). Assign investigation to the person/group accused of wrongdoing.
3). Profit????? Well at least pay no price......

Yeah, I got the memo, but too much of it was redacted to know what it said.... ;-)

All I gotta say is, drill baby drill ... In North Dakota, and South Dakota.
We've got to stop relying on oil from these assholes.
We're nine months from launch and still waiting for any of these games!!

Exactly. The damn politicians whine and complain about "not enough STEM workers" while the salaries go down.
Economics says there are enough STEM workers for the supply desired and we don't need more.
So the politicians should shut the hell up!
In this case the distrust of science is somewhat appropriate. The SCIENTIFIC study that said the MMR shot caused autism, was fraudulent.
Distrust of that science proved it was erroneous.
