    In my experience, men are more likely to watch soap operas. Perhaps it might have something to do with the fact that women are sick of all the drama from back in high school and college, but some men never get tired of watching people fuck each other over?

    Try reading his post next time:

    My over-the-air reception is crap. (I get a few channels with a lot of static.) My HD over-the-air is even worse. (I get 1 channel, sometimes, with a lot of corruption in the video and audio.)

    What ISP? There aren't any other ISPs other than Comcast in many areas of the US. In some areas, the only alternatives also do the same bullshit, so there's nothing you can do.

    UNIX has been replaced by GNU and BSD, and Bell Labs works on something quite new with regards to UNIX known as Plan 9 from Bell Labs. I don't really think there is any reason to use old UNIX code when Plan 9 is already open source.

    Every Linux web server comes with Perl also...

    Anyhow, I think it's because script kiddies tend to use (or exploit) PHP applications more often than other scripting languages due to its high availability in cheap hosting environments.

    Besides the fact that it wasn't, I believe the problem is distributing the software today as the action that violates the DMCA. As confusing as it is, it is not illegal to use libdvdcss, DeCSS, or anything like that, but it is illegal to distribute it (as far as the DMCA says; it could be legal to distribute it as protected free speech, but I don't know if anyone has tried to use that defence since the MPAA backed off in the DVDJon case).

    You can easily fake your age on sites that ask for your birthdate due to COPA and the site isn't liable for that, right? Shouldn't the person who is lying be the one that gets in trouble?

    Also, you can generally determine what country someone is in by their IP address, so that can be done. Problem is, there are many people like me who just don't give a fuck about patents and copyright infringement (I prefer developers to respect software licenses, but I wouldn't sue over it; users I couldn't care less about with regards to copyright infringement) who live in the US and would not like to be excluded from using the software in question just because I live in the US...

    Ta-da! It's even free of charge. The other codecs (other than MP3 I mean) cost money, but you can get them legally via that. They work using the GStreamer framework (commonly used in GNOME multimedia applications).

    And a fifth group: downloads it for free but still ends up buying it for full price. I've done this plenty of times with music albums (some independent, a couple that are probably signed to big labels sadly), and I still continue to do it.

    If you want to make a living writing or maintaining software, your best bet is to do custom software for businesses. In fact, the vast majority (I hate that phrase by the way) of software developers out there get paid to work on custom software for various businesses. You can do contracting work or get hired by a company to work for them exclusively. Hell, this is also how a lot of Free software is developed. Writing proprietary software for general use is pretty silly and depends upon a broken business model to survive. Companies like Microsoft and Adobe only survive because they have massive markets (and expensive prices) that many, many businesses are in.
