In all honesty, it's kind of a bummer that these sites are so obsessed with breaking Apple secrets all the time. Imagine how cool it would have been if nobody knew this was coming out, and bam, suddenly it's announced..
It would be great for fans, but suck hard for general consumers. Take me for example. In 2004, I picked up a 20GB Gen3 as my first iPod. Two weeks later, Apple comes out with the brand new version with a vastly improved battery life. So it was back to the store to "upgrade". Now, about two hours before this news hit the net, I picked up a 30GB Gen5 to replace my 20GB Gen4. If the rumor is true, I'm strongly considering returning this and waiting a few months.
If I were a fan boy who loved blowing my money on anything Apple pushes, I'd be a pig in s**t right now. As a person who buys his iPod from his local Wal-Mart, it sucks that the new toy I just picked up picked up could already be outdated by a version with better features, improved battery life, etc.
Full Disclosure: I'm a project administrator with YaBB.
The sort version is YaBB SE was developed as a PHP port of the Perl version primarily by two YaBB staff members. After a few issues such as their code being ripped off, they changed their name to SMF. Aside from a few members such as myself who bounced between the two projects, there never was any official relationship.
Taking one idea and using it yourself is a cornerstone of capitalism. So I don't understand why you're basing Microsoft for doing what every other business has done throughout human history. It's really like saying "Oh, don't buy a Ford because they didn't invent the car."
As if the Inquirier is a reputable media source. How many time have they been sued?
It sounds to me like you're confused between "The Inquirer" and the "National Enquirer".
Shortly after they "relaunched" CherryOS, they shut down the site and claimed they were going to release the program as Open Source on May 1st. As you can see, we're past that "deadline" and it looks like this Open Source version is a no-show. I be you're shocked, right?
I'm putting my money on that never happening and the whole thing being a stunt to drive attention away from their shady business practices.
Most people don't ask for a tissue, they ask for a Kleenex. It's not just a copy, it's a Xerox. We don't search for something online, we Google it. That picture of George W. Bush being dry humped by Abe Vigoda isn't simply fake, it's Photoshopped.
See, a good advert isn't simply about clicking now or even directly influencing your buying patters. It's all about branding. While you may never buy/visit an advertised product/site, the more exposure you have to a good ad, the deeper your mental connection between the brand and the focus.
So a few months down the road, a friend asks you "Hey, do you know any good hosting services", your brain will connect the term with, say, the Rackspace advert you saw on Slashdot.
If you just ignore the ads, you're at least giving the owner of the site a chance. If you block them all together, you're just taking all the pennies from from the little tray.
If you don't like this, feel free to sign the petition.
At the risk of sounding like a torll, what ever happened with using market demand to get thigns done? If you don't like what they're doing with.us, don't buy/renew and then tell them why.
No one cares about your signature unless it's written on cash.
This whole thing sounds more like a PR thing then something legit. Think about it. Had there been no copyright on it, no one outside of Chicago would have cared. Now there's a huge outcry and people are posting pictures "out of spite".
Gee, sounds like the whole "Cartman Land" marketing scheme to me.
From the Article: "Remember when cars came out, and people would say, 'Wow, we're going for a ride today!' Now they just go for a ride."
Oh yes, how could ANY of us not remember that! Hey, you guys remember the time Lothar was smashing those rocks together and invented fire. Ahh, those were the days..
That's the thing though. The same idiots who buy from spammers or open attachments titled "10_YEAR_OLD_SEX.jpg" will be the same to report the email to whatever authority in their country deals with this crap. It sucks, but it's an effective way to bring unwanted headlines like "Company XYZ under investigation for child porn mailing".
..really, I'm shocked. The company I worked for a few months back on a contract basis was getting threats like "If you don't ____________ we'll spam in your name/send people fales rates for your service/send a virus from your accounts/send magic pixies to rearrange in your sock drawer". This really seems like the natural progression of things, as sad as that sounds. You can really only hope for one of two options. Either inform the media and hope if and when it goes down, enough people are "in the know" that you can avoid any backlash or keep your fingers crossed that one of the proposed email verification ideas takes off.

I really can't be the only one who finds it hypocritical he's starting his own protection racket, can I?
What an asinine argument. No, it just can't be the fact we charge $400 for our software, it has to be something else. Please. This is no different then trying to blame global warming on the aluminium manufacturers on the grounds that "if we didn't have the cans, we wouldn't have anything to put the aerosol in".
Maybe it's just me, but I've never considered "Where's Waldo" as something that would fall into "required" reading. Hell, I'm not even totally sure that's constitutes reading to begin with...lol

Wait, you're telling me I don't need the 3.2Ghz P4 with "Hyper-Threading" to power my porno slideshow screensaver?!?

Now who's Daryl McBride...?
An evil monkey puppet created by the tears of small children beaten to death by the satanic Teletubbie they don't show on TV
Needless to say, I'll have the knee-jerk reaction of smacking the crap out of the first kid that comes to my door in a Daryl McBride mask..

It's just MS's WMA format that iTunes can't play, but neither can any other player anyways.
That's not exactly true.
