  1. Re:Cyrillic on SHA-0 Broken, MD5 Rumored Broken · · Score: 0

If you're going by phonetics, then backwards N is i, backwards N with thingy above it is j and e with dots is 'jo'.

The only rarely written down letter in russian is the latter, if you go by the russian rules, not the cyrrilic transliteration into latin alphabet. :>

Actually about half of the russian vowels are a combination of 'j' and some base vowel. Like '|-O' letter is basicly 'ju'... The reverse R letter is basicly 'ja'. The N with a breve is known as 'jot' (close), or eee-the short.
    I know. Im russian.

  2. Re:Cyrillic on SHA-0 Broken, MD5 Rumored Broken · · Score: 0

Well, you could throw out 'yo' () (one with the dots on top), since it is rarely used. You can't throw out "backwards N" () since it is normal and common sound/letter, as commonly used as i is in english. I would try to preserve the as well, since it is quite useful too. So there you go. Throw one letter out and you have 32 ones. Oh, I remember that old russian alphabet had many more characters. Up to at one point 51 iirc?

When times are hard, the Corporation must cut costs, usually by laying off employees. Since everything on our world is Corporation property this means any ex-employee is instantly trespassing and is guilty of stealing Corporation property such as air and sunlight. The only appropriate penalty for theft is to feed the furnace.

Like in the Pacifici in WWII, the Japanese would go blindly charge at a few marines, but the highly specialised and mobile marines would wipe them all out with a few casualties.

I would like to point out a flaw in your analogy. Remember Tarawa.

That is, before the marines became highly specialised and mobile, thay went through such places as Guadau Canal (fierce month long fighting between equal forces of japanese troops and US marines), Tarawa (tiny island that was bombarded for six days, yet when the atack started by the elite 2nd marine division, which had new amphibious craft, first used during the war there, lost 90 out of 125 of them and the 5000 defending japaneese killed and wounded 3000 marines, with an unusually high percentage of deaths) and more. Oh, btw (this is an obligatory obvious trolly-question here), when the landing in Normandy occured, the coast was guarded by two divisions (300something and 700something)... Guess where the rest of 300th and 700th divisions were? ;>

  10. Great music is to be found in both (old) camps on The Rise And Fall Of Game Audio · · Score: 1

When I am thinking of games of old, I can find you examples of both electronical music and orchestral music used to greatly enliven the atmosphere. That is, even then there were two approaches (Im speaking about the pc games of the beginning of 90s).

Anyone remembers Betrayal at Krondor? The cd version with awesome music? Thats one of the best examples of 'old school' archestral pieces that is far above a lot of I ever heard in a game (the floppy version has music that is not as good, but on other hand it does not have a full cd for music).

On other hand, I have to do the obligatory StarControl plug (and not to forget Ur-Quan Masters, remake with cool remixed music). Thats one of the better examples of the really good electro music.

Still, there are very good pieces in both old arcade, nes, genesis games and such like. Get the NSF Winamp plugins, and you can listen to the really cool sound of old nes games. Do a google search on NSF files, and there are quite a few places where you can get them. My very personal favorite is music Dragon Fighter.

Hmm, too bad that I have to get back to work. There's still a lot of ground to be covered. It is so unfortunate, that Soviet Russia started with Speccy and did not have anything before it. So many great games that we (russians) did not get to play. :>

Not only you have to spend a year, or so in training camps where they stress test you in preparation... But before you are clear for launch they remove anything that might be troublesome and can't be fixed in flight. Apendix for example. Tonsils and the like too I think?

One of the best games of all time ever made too. :) Hopefully the Ur-Quan Masters project will take that direction somewhere after the 1.0 release. It could grow into something as fabulous as this MMO remake of the Pirates! While there is in currently made games, and games of old that can be improved in terms of appeal for both casual and hard core gamers, there are also a lot of good ideas, that can be taken from them.
