So given the fact that you acknowledge that you're not even as good at windows, why would then jump to windows? Think about that logic for a moment. "I know about A a lot, and B less. B is supposed to work with my target application. Therefore, I choose B". ???? You would have gotten actual responses on just about any linux forums if you posted anything about what happened where people more knowledgeable than you or I can fix this, or tried using Beryl or the appropriate installer to make sure graphics binaries are even up to date in the first place. Or try using normal ubuntu instead of kubuntu or an actual debian build. K is better graphically but can cause issues with games.
You could get the kid a laptop which can run wow for almost the same money as you'd pay to simply get a copy of windows that can do what you'd expect it to. I don't mean this as "you suck", but as "there are a lot more options out there".
I fail to see how any of this sounds like an incentive to even give neowin consideration, honestly. At least here you have actual technical people answering things too. You can ask incredibly technical things and you *will* get honest replies.
That's not giving up control. that's giving up privacy. They are not the same. Even if they have backdoors into everything we still maintain control of the actual devices.
Owners of the "how dare you compete with us?" pool, you mean. Same thing though. Does MS realize how quickly this will backfire? You know they're only using German courts to avoid publicity and pull an East Texas, which is not going to happen here.
That would be awesome and certainly could go a long way towards inks that aren't made out of plastic (creating tons of waste) and don't have a ridiculous cost per ounce.
The second the internet leaves US control (as much as spying is idiotic and unacceptable), even the concept of free speech is over. Instantly.
So think about how internet is in russia, china? If they hand control over you get that globally. So basically the US needs to stop doing a shit job managing the internet - but giving it up to the UN will make things worse.
No part of mainframes has *anything* to do with desktops. It does not correlate in any fashion.
Desktops will always be in use in some fashion - miniaturizing technology only goes so far - so it's not a question of expense alone but also thermals and physical space. Since people tend to have to work on hardware you can't have it all be the size of a mobile SOC to do so or it becomes prohibitive. That's not just a "workstation" situation, but an "All PC's" situation.
Look, Monsanto is a horrible horrible company - but the cancer study stuff was flawed. They should be brought down for patent shakedowns, but the cancer thing wasn't really proven conclusively in any fashion from that study.
Considering that you can still put microsoft docs into google docs, this isn't a change. They're just not sending it back out into those formats - which also means converting documents which weren't microsoft docs, into microsoft docs. The issue here is relying on Microsoft products, not a fault of google's.
Of course not, nobody does. They walk around with a 1 penny subsidized smartphone, supposedly priced at $600. That's the issue with calling it a $600 phone in the first place. If it's subsidized so heavily it's not reflecting on the real price at all.
People haven't caught on to the clothing store "everything's on sale!" concept where things are marked up 20% and then discounted the same amount but advertised as on sale. It applies to the pricing of smartphones, which carriers have been slowly but steadily inflating over the past 10 years.
Who would want even $1 of their money to go to windows?
Format to Linux and suddenly there's a requirement for a lot more security upfront. Of course are families going to understand how to use it? With ubuntu it's pretty likely yes.
It's what the PR companies have said from day one. It's an ignorant and biased view and implies that somehow you don't have a choice other than google - which is a requirement of a monopoly.
In other words, this article is about nothing and so is the speculation.

Much more simple.
Step 1: uninstall windows.
step 2: install linux.
IF you can't get WOW and LOL to work with linux, you're writing a fud-troll article because those are probably the two most compatible games to exist.
in short, article sucks and so do the troll suggestions.
even better, you can't disable apple's tracking - this is just 3rd parties.
So you're saying, try reading an incredibly biased website? At least slashdot is neutral and the issue is trolls, neowin is explicitly pro microsoft.
sophos isn't a security app. it's something you install that you believe provides security. that's actually different.
However, if you aren't installing from 3rd party app stores chances are low that there's anything of risk.

Please. We're talking about Taiwan. Let's not insult Taiwan like that - Taiwan has not stooped to the level of Gary, Indiana.

They have some kind of cap/quota concept, as well as a maximum amount of transfer per a specific amount of time.
It's the not quite unlimited kind of "calling it unlimited anyway".
Actually, get ready! it's going to be web 3.0! That means it'll be incompatible with web 2.0.
Look, Monsanto is a horrible horrible company - but the cancer study stuff was flawed.
They should be brought down for patent shakedowns, but the cancer thing wasn't really proven conclusively in any fashion from that study.
failure in the first sentence.
Why would we assume the worst? I don't even understand how that is supposed to be a compelling argument.
You have no privacy with anything - why should that be specific to google?
Oh right, please use the privacy-friendly search engine that uses bing instead, right? /facepalm
carpet isn't pulled, it was never there in the first place.
This is explicitly slated with the goal being to find a way to break compatibility by starting with apache 2.0.
If this was Apache 3.0, then we'd be talking about Microsoft trying to benefit the community.
Because the patent arsenal isn't even worth the paper it's written on? Things aren't looking so good for them in terms of patents globallly.

I don't like how unity is set up, I truly don't. It's poor for people who know how to use Linux at all.
But for people who don't have a clue? It's pretty good. I prefer Kubuntu as Alex mentions, as well.

Really? Cite searchenginewatch, a site that basically hates google because google is their competition?
Please cite something that's actually valid. I'd believe Florian Mueller and Steve Jobs when he was alive before I'd believe searchenginewatch.
