Nintendo has cracked down on piracy, yes, but they have NEVER stopped homebrew projects (and things like OoT2D don't count). They don't seem to really give a shit about homebrew, it's just that both are often lumped together thanks to people like you, asshole.
Say no thanks to a wifi driver? OK, I sure do like being internet-less.
"Freedom." Define "freedom" in this case. The way many of you speak of this closed vs. open source issue, you keep metioning freedom as if having completely open-source software will make the world a better place to live and cure all the problems with humanity. This "freedom" is only superficial and not world changing. If the proprietary nvidia drivers will allow me to play Quake3 with good framerate, than fuck the open source ones. The mentality should not be "my 'freedom!' I must choose the free software." It should be a rational thought process that determines which piece of software is the best choice for what I need. If proprietary software gives me what I want and the free software doesn't, then the choice is simple. It is not a matter of "freedom." It is a matter of getting the fucking job done.
This is the case with me, too. I really wish I could have smooth fonts in Windows with ClearType, but it just makes the text unreadable on my LCD with DVI, whereas withOUT smoothing and such under Linux, the text is barely recognizable (but is oh so pretty with everything enabled).
What? I can press F8 and go to the address bar. I honestly don't know if down will let me access previous URLs because I turn that off.
Two button forward backward? You mean like Right Mouse then Left Mouse to go back and opposite to go forward? That's still in. Just tested it. I'm running Opera 9.50 build 2042 on linux.
Linux may not be ready for the desktop, but it is ready for the surface of Mars.

You know, I am actually cool with that. A stable operating system running a mission critical device thousands of miles away is important, everyone who has contributed to the Linux kernel in some way should be proud that their work is enabling us to learn amazing new things about our red neighbor. I think it says a lot that Linux was chosen over some internallly developed OS.
Should our expectations not be higher for software that we pay out the ass for, that everyone uses, that is advertised so heavily, that basically runs our governments and businesses as opposed to a niche operating system that is used on a few servers (well, quite a bit more than a few, but still not nearly as widely used as Windows)? It's not just the philosophies behind each operating system that determines our expectations, but also the forces backing each operating system and what we have to do for each operating system. I will grant a free operating system more leniency when it comes to compatibility than I would an operating system that costs hundreds of dollars and is basically required to work well for our world to function.
It doesn't work like that. SuSE 10.3 is basically a service pack untop of SuSE 10.2, but is a different operating system than SuSE 9.X. Think of SuSE9.X as some release of Windows (say, 2000), and SuSE 10.X as the very next version of Windows (XP).
When did I ever say that I was connected to the net unprotected? Why do people jump to conclusions like that? There are people out there that have a cable modem hooked directly into their computer, no router in between. I am not one of them. I actually do run DD-WRT on my router.
And even then, it doesn't really matter. I run Linux.
Your WRT54GL wasn't free. It's safe to assume that many people still don't use routers with their cable modems, especially those with only one internet capable device.
I believe the thing with the NBC videos was that NBC aired them first. Also they were NBC's property. These videos certainly are not.
Basically, your plan won't work.
I have never had Windows fail to install for any reason.. The only problem I have ever had with Windows is when I install Linux first and then Windows wipes out GRUB. Then I gotta find a GRUB ISO and figure out the GRUB commands to restore the bootloader (floppies? what are those? while I have a floppy drive still, I have a hell of a time finding disks, even at a tech school). So now I always install Windows first so it's all happy and in place and then let Linux have its way. Windows doesn't even have a clue. It's really best this way.
Cool, so I can be blocked from signing up to my favorite gaming website because I refuse to buy a cellphone*? Awesome, thanks, asshole. It's really not worth it to limit based on that. Also, depending on the site's popularity, they may spend more on SMS in a month that they would get through advertising (especially if it is an infant site).
*Nothing about being able to be tracked or anything, I just don't like the idea of carrying around a $40/month (at least) device that will make me available to anyone and everyone (turn it off, they say; then why get one, I say). My pockets aren't that big =P Besides, I have an answering machine, leave me messages there.
stop
verb (used with object)
1. to cease from, leave off, or discontinue: to stop running.
2. to cause to cease; put an end to: to stop noise in the street.
If there is even one abuser that can get around those simple methods, abuse has not stopped and it is therefore possible to say that "none of the above does anything to stop abusers" as the abuse has not yet ceased.
From my experience it generally isn't so much, it's probably a bad translation that stuck so much punctuation in there.
He said the main goal of Acrobat, not the PDF format. Learn to read.

Except in some cases the proprietary software is sometimes the only/best choice, where as slavery always has better choices.

Is that the serial number for a new western digital/fujitsu hybrid drive???

Ba weep granna weep ninny bong!
What are you talking about?

Hey, it's good logic.
Cardboard flavor.
But do you know how much work that is!?
Other than that, Ubuntu 8.04 makes a fine desktop OS.
That's the idea. I don't recall Ubuntu ever being designed or targetted for tablets.
Yeah, but which one is more appealing to the know nothing-"ooh this is pretty" crowd? That's where Ubuntu's website has it.

It's just easier to find the roms on a torrent site.
