  1. or so you say on Copyright Axe To Fall On YouTube? · · Score: 2, Informative

Why the surprise? Music videos are certainly connected to albums sales, but they're also productive as entertainment in their own right. They're shown on TV, which generates viewership and sells ads, which means that someone is paying for it. Indirectly, sure, but they're paying for it.

That's quite the news to me, as I haven't witnessed this being the case for at least 10 or 15 years. There is not a single time on any channel during any day that I can reliably watch music videos. As far as I can tell, there are no channels on television that show music videos for the purpose of bringing in ad revenue. In fact, the only reason I can figure that MTV and VH1 show videos once or twice a week is so they can claim to be Music Television stations.

And do you really believe they PAY to play videos? Myself, knowing certain folks in the "biz," know for a fact that MTV wanted $5,000 in order to show a particular band's music videos less than a handful of times.

    Simple, simple stuff, here, people.

Bah! Nothing is simple when the music industry is involved.

    Stupid, stupid name: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/04/28

Yeah, it's funny. I'm over it. The thing about the Wii, *for me*, is that I *do* have a high def set, which I would really like to take advantage of. It looks like most Wii games will at least support widescreen, though.

PS3 is just too expensive at launch, and the 360 just doesn't have the games I'm interested in. So, the only thing I can do is wait and see. And in the meantime, I'm using my PC with my HD set for gaming, which is really, really nice. Playing Half-Life 2 with a wireless KB/mouse on a 50" widescreen HD set just can't be beat.

But PC gaming has a real dearth of games in certain genres, eg., platformers, JRPGs, action adventure, etc. So, I still use the ol' PS2, and am looking forward to the new console generation.

What should we do now? Just a minute...

We should never have invaded Iraq, removing the keystone preventing the country from sliding into a civil war based on long established rivalries between Islamic factions. We SHOULD have continued to focus on Afghanistan, and evaluating our mid-east policies.

What should we do NOW? We should impeach GWB, vote out nearly all the incumbents, and force our government to once again operate for and by the people. And then, and only then, can we make any informed decisions about the problems we are facing today. Because as it currently stands, most of our information about our supposed enemies is coming from known liars who act solely in their own interest.

Yeah, I admit it, it's a fucking pipe dream. Pretty much, we're fucked.

Like shooting people in the face -- yes, as much of an asshole as I am on /., I don't shoot people in the face IRL :) -- or driving insanely fast in traffic, or jumping on little brown mushroom lookin' guys. Hopefully they'll have a cheaper one without the bundle, but considering that the cost of bundling a game is nowhere near $50, I don't think it'll hit that $200 price people were hoping for. Oh well. Personally, I'm still taking a "wait and see" approach. I want to see first-hand how the Wiimote plays before getting all excited like a little schoolgirl, and I will not spend $600 on a console until I see proof that it cures cancer and does my dishes. All in all, I'm extremely skeptical about this console generation. So far it's a lot of big promises, big pricetags, and flailing businesses.
