You fool! You've killed us! We need more protection for those who would make money hand over fist by exploiting us! Listen to what the government tells you. It's true. All of it! Why would the government lie to you? Exactly, they wouldn't. This means that more restriction on copyright is a good thing! Why else would anyone even consider it. Who cares if some lame-ass thinks the MPAA and RIAA pushed through law into the WIPO so they could get the DMCA down in the US. They're smoking crack! Just like most of us Canadians... except we smoke pot, legally!
OMG. Like leave the guy alone. If he wants to complain about his CDs let him. It's more a statement on the accountablity of BSD.
"RC1, then we release!"
"Er, ok... we lied!"
You know, I remember when to skin winamp all you had to do was provide some pictures and tell winamp what went where. And then... then there came winamp 2 with their funky xml and scripting and a whole bunch of other stuff. My lightweight MP3 playing program went to a heavy duty jack-of-all trades program. Skinning was cool. Visualizations were cool. But... it's just a little too far now. What reason is there to skin and script a media player??
This is all too true. Luckily, I was able to find a contract job, or rather... my mother had connections to get my a contract job. But still, it's not my dream job. What's there to do when companies offer a Junior Programmer job at minimum wage and get a thousand applicants just for experience?
Maybe I'm just too proud... but I won't do it. I worked for more right out of highschool with no qualifications... now that I got credentials, I won't work for so little I can't support myself.
And that's why I bought a nice big PC earlier this year. Well, really I had this notion that I could create a computer game so I bought all top of the line stuff, but that sorta fell through.
Anyway, bring on next-gen! Doom3 and Halflife 2... I'm ready for you!
A money grubbing bastard. I can't stand him. I used to like the old star wars movies... I really did. Then, the remastered versions came out and I was all excited... and then, the action figures, and the shirts, and the toys. They all came. I saw him for what he really was. The illusion was lifted from my eyes and I saw him for what he really is. A fat slob. I fat slob who wants people to worship the very ground he walks on because of his "wonderfully original" story that he entirely ripped off.
And then... the new movies came out. I refused to watch them at the theatres. George Lucas doesn't deserve my money. No, not now. And so I downloaded it, and I watched it... and it was crap. I passed judgement upon it as soon as I saw Jar Jar Bings.
Now this. Another shameless remake of a movie that didn't need to be done. I am apalled. I am sickened.
Stop buying the star wars books! Stop buying/watching his movies! For the love of god, people! Wake up and see him for what he is!
You are correct. I had been thinking about my post after I wrote it, and a new protocol is needed. Spam works well because we still use an old protocol that doesn't need authentication of any sort.
I could write a spam program if I had a list of email addresses. Connect to mail server, HELO blalblah.com, RCPT TO, BODY... rinse and repeat. You can tell an SMTP server whatever you want to, and it takes it!
I see the issue of secure programming come on on slashdot a lot. And what's the easiest way of making sure data is correct? Validating it... never trust what they give you!!
...the UN won't be able to do anything about spam. As hard as they try, the war against spam will not be won with legislation. As more legislation comes around, the spammers move to countries where nobody cares about the legislation and it all starts again.
The war against spam will be won by smart filters!!
I used to play chess a lot when I was younger competitvely, and the rise of the computer chess masters was an area of great interest.
What you don't take into account is that the computers can be programmed to "bluff". Although they ARE using brute force calculations to figure out what the best move may be, they do have databases of moves. If they have a "bluff" in their database, and the other computer opponent doesn't see it... a game could be one.
I agree, it's not AS interesting as watching people play. But, I never liked watching people play chess anyway. It's boring! I liked beating people;)
I remember the first commercial I ever saw at a movie. It was for coke. It was one of those polar bear commercials that became ever so popular. And then they started popping up everywhere! All the movies had them! And then... the credits went from being a few minutes long to being 20 minutes long! My life was being slowly drained away by advertising products I don't care about. *sniff*
And still everyone rants that they don't want to miss the previews. Who cares!
"We don't need your thought control!"
