That would be North Korea. Since they don't even have phones to reach outside of their country, they don't really have to worry about youtube. They do have intercontinental rockets and nukes, but that's probably just for show.

In most countries alcohol and tobacco taxes aren't sin taxes, they're health taxes. Abuse of alcohol and use of tobacco means raised costs for state healthcare, and that's levied with a tax. I both drink and smoke and I'm quite ok with being heavily taxed because of this.

  3. Brilliant on When Politicians Tax Violent Video Games · · Score: 1

The games get more expensive, leading to more widespread piracy, circumventing the ratings. Very counter productive.

  6. Bah, dangerous? on Beginning Portable Shell Scripting · · Score: 1

I was behind the comfortable wall of a multi user system even with disk quotas. We had access (read only) to our backups and pretty much coudn't screw up. Bourne was standard but I used zsh and later switched to bash. Man pages was all we had to study and we competed in learning as much as possible, writing cool scripts, exploiting the system in various ways. The system was rooted and sabotaged a couple of times but nothing in it was critical in any way. A playground really. I remember the tingling feeling of the 'su' command, the only really dangerous one. Nice that they write books about this but nothing beats the good old feeling of having worked HARD to get the knowledge. The cry of success is so much louder.

This does tons for immersion! It has to be implemented wherever there is a stationary camera (it obviously doesn't work with a camera phone). IIRC, Johnny Lee's work was free to use, so get to it and add that "Enable 3D" checkbox, developers! If only they'd cropped the resulting image to get rid of the black-ground, but that was probably just to show how it works.
