Why not an iNpulse watch? http://getinpulse.com/ Got mine a couple of weeks ago and simply love it. You can change the time font and color, the day of the week font and color. There are a few watch faces available. One even shows the time in roman numerals! Heck, you can PROGRAM it to display the time any which way you like.
Also I pre-ordered a Pebble (scored one of the first 200... Woohoo!). Seems to be the same thing but in e-paper monochrome.

Since Heathkit is long dead, I'd suggest the Parallax learning kit. It is more focused into the Parallax microcontroller but it has basic electronics and formulae explained in the experiments. My local RatShack wants $80 per complete kit (board, book, servo, semiconductors, jumper wires) but I was able to buy one for $35 on eBay...
Credit card issuers (and I bet, many other businesses) make you fill a form if you want to be excluded from their mailing lists. Well, I want to be able to fill a form in order to be excluded from the DNC list. Just make it an OPT-OUT! No form, no removal!
The e-meter is to audit the 'puter in order to get rid of the 'puter thetans. Masses of thetans stuck to it or themselves... Wogs call them dust bunnies...;)
With all due respect, the Challenger incident was caused by rushing things around. A freak accident would have been a small meteoroid puncturing the main tank during launch...

Agree. At my office we're replacing 22 old Compaq PII and III and Sager PI laptops with 22 brand new HP NX9010 P4's.
Guess what? The old Compaq and Sager machines have perfect 1024*768 screens. Not a single dead or stuck pixel. We're going to throw away 22 perfect panels.
OTOH each and every HP has at least one stuck pixel. Some have two. It is really annoying to have a bright red pixel staring at you from a black background.
Wish there was a way to recycle those old panels in the new machines.:(
I can vouch for the social part...
When I started working on IT in '84, we had to make a backup of our PR1ME 550-II mainframe every Friday, to be taken offsite. Well, my boss (a woman) could never thread the tape rolls, even if her life depended on doing it. EVERY single week she would write down the procedure and EVERY single week she would damage a tape or simply call me to do it.
BUT she knew every Mary-Kay product available and would give an impromptu cosmetic demo for the Data Entry girls when the system crashed...
So she was socializing AND making money at the same time!
I am on 256k down/128k up and pay $39.99/month. Entry level DSL is 128k down/64k up for $24.95/month
Only provider here is Verizon (PRTC)
I live in Puerto Rico... But then, the climate more than makes for the high DSL price...:)
Vive le monopoly!
It just occurred to me that those stamps could have RFID chips embedded. When a stamp is sold, the system stores the picture of the buyer and the RFID number of the stamp/booklet/etc dispensed.
If a stamp is used for something illegal, the feds just have to use an RFID reader, contact the USPS with the chip ID, get the location of the vending machine and pull out just one picture.
I'll just wait 60 days before using my stamps...:)
After being an Intel guy since I got my first computer in '87, last month I jumped ship and got an Athlon64 3000+ and motherboard. I assumed if I didn't liked its performance, I could turn it into a cheap 'web browsing computer' and resell it.
Well, I have to admit I am impressed by the performance of the Athlon64. Since day one, it has been clocked @ 2,25 Ghz with the stock heatsink and no ill effects.
In fact, I'm recommending the '64 to family and friends who will be upgrading soon.
Intel will have to add the phrase 'Now compatible with the Athlon64' to its marketing campaign...:)

ONLY if we can make the religious fanatics stick only to religion.
Also, how do we know they're not keeping dual sets of accounting books for cases like this?
Nahhh, not worth it. You would be fined for the one song you really like and the 12 or so crappy songs included in the CD. ;)

Looks like the talibans that escaped Afghanistan settled in Kansas... :(
