  1. Re:To America? Yes. To the GOP? No. on Does Being First Still Matter In America? · · Score: 1

If you're against any sexism regardless of the target why is it you just spent an entire post trying desperately to derail from discussing the actions of a political/social movement with "you horrible woman-hater you!", emotionally charged assertions, personal attacks, and disproven canards? A group of people literally fighting to keep rape legal and throw half of all domestic violence victims under the bus is hardly the "least-dangerous gender discrimination", nor does having a problem with the political/social movement behind that have anything to do with being "insecure and scared of the menace of women". Likewise the fact half of all domestic violence victims are more likely to be arrested than their abuser is hardly a "small wrinkle".

As for the rest of your canards the wage gap myth has been debunked at least a dozen times and men are a huge majority of the homeless and virtually all workplace deaths, prisoners, and suicides. They're also over 10x as likely to go to jail for the same crime as a woman is (far larger than the difference between whites and blacks) and get far more severe sentencing than women. Meanwhile women are nearly 2/3rds of college graduates and utterly dominating the entire education system. And don't even try to bring up that supposed "STEM gap" which is actually only in one or two majors, one of which is a mere 10% of all degrees conferred.

As for "men" running the world... "men" don't run the world. "Men" are not some fungible borg-like monolith. Your problem is with social and economic class, not with gender.

First off CompSci accounts for about 10% of all degrees conferred, just to put things in perspective. Second women earn nearly 2/3rds of all degrees and either dominate or are near parity in virtually every major other than CompSci and Engineering as well as utterly dominating every single measure we have for the education system.

CompSci, Engineering, IT... all of these fields commonly require people to make great personal sacrifices to pursue them, giving up any semblance of a work/life balance and throwing themselves into their major and career. They also all tend to carry a great social stigma, being dominated by stereotypes of men pathologized for being unattractive or failing to conform to traditional hypermasculine extroverted gender norms.

So you've got three factors at work: The first is that women have time and again been shown to actively prioritize work/life balance and non-monetary compensation such as time off or flexibility because they're allowed to pursue that unlike men. The second is the "eww gross nerds" effect of hostile stereotyping backfiring and making the field appear unattractive. The third is fearmongering by con artists that try to control women through fear and disempowerment.

  6. Women also tell us that people like you are con artists using fear to control women and inflammatory rhetoric to create a moral panic. Why should we listen to you and not them?

  7. Yes clearly the logical conclusion is a massive global conspiracy and it's not simply that the rest of the world is increasingly fed up with idiots obsessed with trivial bullshit (in the words of Aayan Hirsi Ali). Clearly the problem isn't that IT and similar fields are textbook examples of exactly the kind of extreme hours and lack of work/life balance that women are empirically proven to be repelled by time and time again. Clearly it's got nothing to do with the ever more extreme fearmongering and disempowering rhetoric that's created an orwellian culture of fear. Clearly we shouldn't listen to women actually in the field who have repeatedly called bullshit on people like you.

I can't get the story of GamerGate straight. And do you know why I can't get GamerGate's story straight? Because GamerGate themself can't get their story straight. GamerGate's story keeps changing every day.

It's been the same since day one, with new information coming to light as things like the GJP mailing list (which even Jimbo Wales himself admits proves gamergate's claims) as investigations produce results. The people BEING investigated for corruption, bribery, blacklisting, and collusion however have been doing everything in their power to try and distract or plaster over that.

Maybe the problem, as I've repeatedly demonstrated, is that you're just incredibly poorly informed to the point of getting even the most basic facts wrong.

I assure you, this is absolutely the first time I've heard anyone from GamerGate even claim that they have addressed corruption around Shadows of Morder... And you are the first person I've met who claims that GamerGaters have addressed this...

This is frankly ridiculous. TotalBiscuit broke the shadows of mordor story and just googling his name shows it filling the news cycle. Literally just googling this shows one of the most prominent public figures supporting gamergate was literally behind breaking the entire scandal. Even mainstream media like Forbes cited TotalBiscuit on this. You literally can't get even this most basic of facts about what happened and when right and yet you continue to insist that you are completely reliably informed about gamergate because some random people, who you have no proof of even existing, totally told you otherwise.

Mcvos do you have any idea how ridiculous it looks for you to keep insisting "But, uh, random people TOTALLY told me otherwise! I'm not making this up I swear!" without any proof at all while I keep citing back to tons of hard evidence?

But maybe they have. Still, they're not giving remotely as much attention to it as they're giving to Depression Quest.

First off they're barely giving any attention to depression quest in the first place, and even then the attention is because Grayson and Depression Quest are both at the heart of the powderkeg of deplorable conduct going back to last year. Deplorable conduct so offensive to basic human decency that it singlehandedly drove the Escapist to overhaul its policies so it would never happen again and publicly apologize for the part they played in stirring up a vicious lynch mob against a community for people at severe risk of self-harm and suicide. Yknow... exactly the people Depression Quest was supposed to be about and help?

Second you're literally asking why gamergate isn't doing journalists' jobs FOR them. That's a self-answering question. Even though gamergate DID provably give significant attention to Shadows of Mordor (getting its own feature on a youtube channel with two million subscribers).

...and yet all the slurs I've seen first-hand, have come from people defending GamerGate.... Everybody I know who has criticized GamerGate (and of all the gamers I know, nobody supports it) is quite the opposite of that....

Again you're insisting "But it's totes real, HONEST!" without any proof in the face of multiple statistical analyses proving 80-90% of gamergate tweets even directed at those they oppose most strongly are neutral to positive and overwhelming evidence documented across twitter itself and dedicated websites contradicting you here. Leigh Alexander, Arthur Chu, Ian Cheong, Ben Kuchera, Devin Faraci, all of the major leading figures in gaming journalism and on the other side have repeatedly publicly condoned doxing and called people everything from pissbabies to members of the KKK... a cruel irony given the deliberate targeting of black men and other minori
