  3. Re:$31,000 per minute! on US Amazon.com Website Down For Over 1 Hour · · Score: 1

I think it'd be pretty clear that Amazon.com isn't a fly-by-night operation and that even if it were something wrong with the website and not a router somewhere else, it'd probably be back the same day, even if not exactly an hour later. When I buy things online, if there's something wrong with my preferred vendor, I'll just check back later in the day.

  4. $31,000 per minute! on US Amazon.com Website Down For Over 1 Hour · · Score: 5, Insightful

would cost Amazon more than $31,000 per minute on average.
Because obviously if someone tries to buy something and Amazon is broken for an hour, they're just going to not-buy it or buy it from a competitor. Because you definitely can't wait an extra hour to place an order when it'll take 2-10 days for the product to get shipped to you anyway.

Seriously? Are you this stupid? It's only that resource hungry if you want to have every god-damn feature enabled. Should they have chopped out all of the extra-pretty features so it looked and ran as well as Half-Life 2? Then it would run on four-year-old hardware (like it does now, if you turn stuff off!) but the people that do have fast hardware wouldn't get any benefit. And as you beef up your computer, you'll be able to continue to get extra enjoyment out of the game for years as you dial it up.

BPL was available right here in Cincinnati for years, though it looks like you can't get it anymore. Everyone I knew that had it loved it. There were no complaints of interference. The only reason it died off, as far as I can tell, is that it just wasn't profitable when it needed to compete with DSL and cable. It was only 1mbps, symmetric, though, so I am surprised they expect to be able to pump so much bandwidth through this one.

You must be new here. Seriously, do you read the comments on Slashdot? Easily half of comments are from neo-conserva-fascists and libertarians. And of course, Republicans are for "smaller government" (Read: Lower taxes, but increase spending, despite cutting social programs) which means that the libertarians flock in that direction.

It just happened to appear roughly at the time when internet access really started to take off, when more and more people were getting new computers, etc. There's nothing inherent about either of the games that makes them particularly special, other than the fact that they were reasonably solid and appeared at the right time.
