    If it makes you feel any better, I'm in Hong Kong, and all my stuff has American accounts so all that glorious DRM shit doesn't work. Yeah much to my amazement it doesn't work when you travel.

    Nobody buys Oracle because they need a DB, and that sounds sexy. They buy Oracle because their application needs a database, and it either ONLY runs on Oracle, or is highly recommended to run on Oracle.

    And then there is Oracle commerce which I see nobody mentioning. The backend of most businesses, which shockingly needs an Oracle database.

    Got some random data you want to organize? have a budget? If so MSQL, otherwise MySQL. Have a real world app? Oracle.

    You forget the solution that is always 'sold' to people is that they need to buy something. If we gave a shit about the environment, the big ass ships would be nuclear, and people would instead fix their old cars as making new cars is far more damaging to the environment. But that doesn't sell, and the consumer needs something to buy in.

    I'm always amazed how duped the 'smart' and general public is.

    But they love buying new things, Bernays was a freaking genius.

    I'm sure that'll work out well, like the current corse is.

    I'd be nice if MS had just fragmented out so we could get VC and .net on other platforms, along with Office. But as it stands now, all the kids are doing Ruby and anything else that isn't MS so the languages division (MSDN) folks are going down, and with Linux owning the 'cloud' space, now they screwed up consumer windows, so the tables and phones are taking over.

    Looking back from 1999 it's amazing that MS could fuck it up so badly.
