Actually, I have two little girls.

If I knew of anybody even seriously thinking of harming them, I would have absolutely no regrets or second thoughts when--or after--I murdered that person in the most gruesome of ways. And feel free to quote this in the trial...it's not insanity to protect your young.

But, for example, somebody who streaks is NO. DANGER. AT. ALL. It's pointless, a waste of government resources, and a VIOLATION of human RIGHTS to put someone who commits a victimless act on a list designed to protect "victims".

I have DESPISED this man's code since the day I saw it. His BONEHEADED insistence on doing things the Solaris way in Linux, his apparent INABILITY to use a standard build system, and the INSUFFERABLE ARROGANCE he displays through absolutely everything he does are completely INFURIATING.

Think I'm spewing flamebait? Nonsense. Read this bug report about cdrtools. He starts by insisting his misinterpretation of the GPL is correct, goes on to threaten defamation(slander) lawsuits in german courts against Debian, and finishes up calling most the people in the discussion thread "convinced liars". The man is unusable as an open source contributor, and I am ecstatic that more people actually realize this now.

    Responding to your first statement.
Something you probably don't know is what action they were convicted for.
In some cases, yes, the person committed a heinous crime and was duly punished. In many others, the person got drunk and pissed behind a bush at a party, or decided he and his girlfriend should go get frisky in the backyard.
To go out on a limb, I'm willing to bet a VAST MAJORITY of the people on the sex offender list are harmless. And that's the very problem. A list such as that should be reserved for those people that, knowing exactly what they did, you don't want to even be on the same planet with them.

Otherwise...well, this new law is just another advance in our state-sponsored witch-hunts. Remember, it's all to protect you against the Turrists.

One variant, called Q199R, appeared almost immediately, and the bacteria that contained it became the dominant strain of bacteria through 500 generations of breeding. The gene, however, couldn't provide protection after 62 degrees Celsius.

At that point, five new strains of bacteria, all with slightly different versions of Q199R, appeared. Three of the five new strains were driven to extinction in a few days, while the remaining two fought it out for three weeks longer.

The group then conducted the experiment again, and the same mutations developed . Thus, the experiment suggests that evolutionary development can be predicted, the researchers said.

Afterwords, if this personal computer wanders around the Internet having unprotected HTTP with other servers, any who don't have the vaccination are going to pick up whatever it's got.
