I suppose it depends on whether you accept a ruling by the United States District Court, District of Minnesota, Fourth Division or not. The trial, "declared the ENIAC patent of Mauchly and Eckert invalid and named Atanasoff the inventor of the electronic digital computer...." If I remember correctly, the judge stopped just short of accusing Mauchly of blatantly copying Atanasoff's ideas in his final decision.
The book I referred to in my original post does a very thorough job of explaining the details. You could only gather more by reading the court decision itself, along with all of the evidence presented during the trial.
Don't play around with something "cool" like a distributed RAID disk. Just spend the money on a decent tape drive and tapes, design a tape backup rotation strategy, get a safety deposit box at a local (or not-so-local) bank for off-site storage, and set up Amanda to do the backups.
Later versions of the amavisd-new mail scanner don't send mail to sender addresses from virii/worms that forge mail headers, even if you have it configured to do so.
Isn't this the exact opposite of the social situation portrayed 20 minutes into the future by Max Headroom, where everyone but the homeless were tracked?
I've been using clamav for virus scanning since it appeared in Debian unstable. It is used by amavisd-new for virus scanning and with spamassassin for spam scanning of my incoming (and outgoing) email. Amavisd-new is then integrated with postfix and cyrus-imapd (2.1.x) for my mail server. Works like a champ on a Power Mac 8600/200 with 512MB RAM!
The only problem with using clamav is that it needs more mirrors to distribute the virus definitions. The main virus definition download site was down over this past weekend, I'm guessing because of the BugBear.B worm.
SQLite claims to be twice as fast as both MySQL and PostgreSQL, and is more SQL92-compliant and ACID-compliant than MySQL.
Does that mean everyone should drop MySQL and PostgreSQL for SQLite? No. It means you have to evaluate your situation and choose the best tool for the job.
Personally, I've have very good luck using PostgreSQL, and probably won't ever consider using MySQL until it is truly ACID-compliant.
Has anyone else noticed that the images on the DVDs themselves for Parts I and II are really fuzzy? I hope Universal corrects that by Feb 2003 as well.

The article mentions ENIAC, but not the Atanasoff-Berry Computer which pre-dated it, and which ENIAC was largely based upon.
For more information, read "Atanasoff: Forgotten Father of the Computer".
Ha.
Between his work in Office Space and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (among many others), I think Stephen Root would make a perfect Zaphod.
'Nuff said.
So is it pronounced like "Seuss" (as in "Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss), or is it pronounced like "Suzy" with a soft "S" instead of a "Z"?
Navtech has a feedback site where you can alert them to incorrect streets, missing streets, etc.
Just click on your language; select your country and click "Submit"; then fill out the form and click "Submit" again.

So how long before Dave Barry publishes the Oklahoma judge's phone number? ;)

It's tied into an integral part of the operating system. If Microsoft got rid of it, it would break Windows!

This Salon article debunks that myth that started with a blackout in New York in 1965 (see page 3).

The episode is called "Interface" from the 7th season of ST:TNG. Geordi actually uses a neural interface to control the probe remotely.

Download and install Mozilla.
Yes, Mozilla has had its share of security flaws, but they generally get fixed faster, too.
