The regulatory environment and culture of safety that surrounds aviation (military or otherwise) is a remarkable achievement. The complexity of the systems involved is far beyond the capacity of any single human being, even if one aspect of it seems simple or obvious to one observer.
Every time I fly I am happy to have my tax dollars support that framework, even if it occasionally (or frequently) results in unnecessary "red tape." What's the phrase - "procedures only work if you follow them"?
Absolutely true. I can't even imagine how ridiculously skewed the results must be because of this effect. For example, how many slashdot users would even look at an e-mail saying "SPAM SURVEY. CLICK HERE!!" or respond to an analogous phone call?
This whole thing sounds like it's just shy of being a 419 scam. As another poster said, I don't know whether to laugh or cry . ..

As it can be expected the license fees collectable from infringers will be staggering, we are willing to offer very generous return for investors, in a short term.
I wouldn't dispute the fact that they get a disproportionate amount of coverage on slashdot, but to be fair I think Google is more than just a company with a "nice product." They have shown that it is possible to make money with innovative products while adhering to a code of ethics. Whatever may underlie this appearance, they at least seem to be a model of good-faith business practices.
Unfortunately feeling for a pulse at the wrist can be very misleading if your blood pressure is abnormally low . . . or if you're nervous, or not feeling in the right place. Better to feel at the neck. Chest compressions are not something you want to get unless you're actually dead.
With regard to IV/blood draw practice, I can tell you nothing beats practicing on fellow students for learning - not only because it's more real than any simulation, but because you learn to appreciate how painful and uncomfortable it is for patients when you screw up or are too timid when entering the skin.
One would think that national security concerns would result in funding for development of small screens (for use by soldiers in night vision devices, HUDs, etc.), not incredibly large ones.
