I thought you were going to bring up the fact that MS has recently gone all patent happy themselves.
I'm really wondering if they are thinking about trying to go toe to toe with the 800 lb patent gorilla IBM, and just biding their time until SCO is officially toast.
I'm really hoping this doesn't happen but if it does, it will just confirm to me just how much integrity (especially the lack there of) that MS has.
(I haven't used XP after 5 years of its existance, because in my opinion WPA(hash) = Intel(CPUID))
OK let say Oracle buys Novel. The first thing they could do, is use their much more substantial and well funded coral of land sharks in Novels fight against SCO. OK now lets say they win. Now Oracle can say they own UNIX IP outright.
And now we get SCO round 2, but with a far more powerful and well-funded bank of land sharks.
Yayaya Descent is dead (despite the enjoyable game I played in a level called circumference last night) yada yada.
Weeeeeeeeeeelllllll. Oh geee. There is Core Decision coming soon which will have the same server based gaming system, allowing users to play against each other GASP for free. Minus the cost of broadband of course.
Wonder what big greedy pigopolists like EA will think about that?
Ya, I know the EFFs looooooooong running stance on spam.
For years they have angered anti-spammers with it.
I say, more power to AOL in this case and I hope they tell the EFF to shove it. Its not like the EFF has made all that much a difference in the past anyway.
Dont get me wrong. The EFF has had many laudable goals over the years. But today we have DRM everywhere, DMCA, **AAs suing little old ladies without computers, P2Ps shutting down left and right, processor IDs are gone only to be replaced by the WPA hash, absurd patents being granted as much as ever, and now it looks like they are going to try reintroducing the child protection law that was struck down by the SC. [sarcasm mode=dripping]WOW what an effectual organization.[/sarcasm]
If I were AOL I would be laughing my a$$ off right now.
They will just have to fork up some of their spamming profits to AOL and Yahoo.
And they still get to crap all over my inbox with their excrement.
Re:GIMP and GAIMs dll hell.

Why Use GTK+?
·
· Score: 1
When I have any GAIM up and running on a 2.8 GTK and when Im just about to start chatting with someone on the AIM network, as soon as I hit return on my first message, the chat window completely dissappears. When I downgrade GTK to 2.6 this behavior stops. Its very consistant and reproduceable on my system.
Ya I know. When Im in the market for bandwidth, I always insist that the supplier give me contention ratio figures. (DSL is no exception because there can be contention ratios at the DSLAM)
If Im not supplied this, then I dont use them. (Speakeasy will actually give you this info if asked)
Actually I can understand not wanting to bear the cost of two lines of developement. I wouldnt mind if they simply came out and officially said they would support users trying to run under wine.
"Here here" I totally agree about the obnoxious practice of creating adds that eat up a great deal of CPU cycles.
GameSpy is one of the worst offeders of this tactic. Which is unfortunate since my online game of choice for years has been Descent 3 and PlanetDescent is hosted by GameSpy. Over the past year, I have noticed that more and more, when I visit PlanetDescent that my CPU gets maxed out and its always certain adds from GameSpy doing it. More over, GameSpy has taken to putting up a splash add when you visit PlanetDescents top page. And the splash add will not go away untill you let GameSpy set a cookie.
Well recently this behaviour made me blow my stack. Even though Ive chatted with the maintainer of PlanetDescent a couple times and kind of like the guy, I basically told them to SHOVE IT right on thier forums and told them to remove my account.
I disslike having to use add blockers and havent up until this point, but I have been pushed over my threshold as another/.er already put it.
All this is very unfortunate because Descent 3 is still to this day a great game and there are still quite a few who play it online. But that number is slowly but surely dwindling. And behaviour like this by a major clearinghouse website for all things Descent, only serves to excelerate that trend.
*sigh* I guess my favorite online game truely is dead or on its death bed, and it seems that no game developer is going to come out with another 6DOF any time soon.
But PlanetDescent and GameSpy can GTH for all I care.
I do have a BIG problem about IPOing. Once there is stock publicly held, the stock holders value is required to be maximized.
OK, From my understanding here, the Corporation is "part of" the Foundation. If the proper binding contracts are not put in place before hand, then we can say good buy to the popup blockers.
So I guess Im locked out of IE bug fixes as well. [churchlady] Aint that special? [/churchlady]
Screwem anyway. Im almost done porting the last of my Winapps to Linux+wine. Then Ill be getting rid of the last Microsh14 Winbloz operating system that I will ever own. (which is Win2K)
"I don't like Nick Lache, Jessica Simpson, J Lo, or Little Jon. So sorry if I'm not gobbling up the crap your dropping."
I happen to like the group Gravity Kills. Oh wait, they busted up because their big record label was screwing them over. Way to encourage me to buy their current crap. Way to go RIAA.
The only way I obtain music, is to go to a music store and buy a non-watermarked non-drmed CD.
If I could just use a legitimate online service that doesnt use DRM, without having to resort to some obscure Russian site, I would forsake the music stores in a heartbeat.
Agreed completely. Who wants to hear Pink Floyd sing "Dont give me that do goody goody bull ____"? It ruins the artistic merit.

Anybody know what port this dials home on?
They can have my StreamRipper when ........
And now we get SCO round 2, but with a far more powerful and well-funded bank of land sharks.
Ill just keep playing my Descent 3 against others on the net, for free, thank you very much.

"A large blue screen" Hmmm. That brings back memories: BSOD

Um first post?
The latest GIMPs all are 2.8 exclusively and if you try to run on 2.6 you get all sorts of problems.
Even the new GAIM 2 beta is 2.6 and if you try to use 2.8 you get all kinds of problems.
I REALLY HATE WHEN DEVELOPERS CREATE DLL HELL.

Anyone else noticed that there are 2 rocks in the forground that are just too nicely square to be natural? Guess the face could be real as well. ;P
7 zip
HighOctane
Ive even been known, not to use some websites that dont work unless you allow a cookie. (i.e. OfficeMax)
To push through mandatory DRM crap through congress.
that ID frequency to indicate the presence of an RFID at 6.66 Mhz ;P

I refuse to ever use XP because of the WPA.
