    It could be licensed for peanuts to anybody. All you have to do is make sure there is a nice little non-disclosure agreement in that licensed and bingo, you just cut out anyone wanting to GPL their work.

    I think that such a scheme would only be acceptable, if the individuals wishing to spam are willing to support the ENTIRE infrastructure needed to support the much greater bandwidth/data required. I include in this, greatly increasing capacity at peering points, and routers throughout the chain, AND adding storage capacity to individuals systems since they will be needing the harddrive space. I suspect that would wind up being just a bit more than a penny per email.

    If the U.S Post Office sends people mail they take it.

    When people watch TV they are inundated with 20 mins of commericals per hour; no choice.

    Yet if a company follows the current federal laws on sending email they still get hammered. Just once I want to see a story about someone dumping an 18 wheeler truck of mail they got from the Post Office back in their parking lot.

    Those are not the same and you know it. Ill accept a spammers email when he's paying for me to have a T3.

    OK maybe this is technically a DDOS attack. But is it really the same if the individuals are participating willingly and not through some worm or virus?

    What happens when software engineers are required to sign a nondisclosure agreement just so their software will run on the hardware? MS and OSX engineers, just shrug and say not a problem. (sarcasm) Who cares what GPL engineers think, when they cant release the pertenant source code.

    No I do think there is a threat.

    Obviously I know Im going to have to do a reinstall of the nvidia drivers. Thats a given for any new kernel. One thing that worries me a little is, I'm running Dante socks proxy server. Another thing is I'm running the latest and greatest wine. When I install wine I use the compile method and I'm hoping all goes well under GCC 4.

    Is there a HOWTO somewhere? Ya I know its probably obvious but it would be nice to have a short HOWTO to list proper precautions other than just backing up, before you start. I have quite alot of data on my harddrive and it would be nice if I can upgrade my FC3 without having to restore it all from my backup.

    Then why the F??K did everyone get all ticked off at INTEL for daring to add a unique number to each one of thier processors?

    BTW, sorry for sounding like a broken record about the above, but it really ticks me off that M$ doing essentially the same thing in the WPA is now somehow OK.

    The Descent series were 6DOF and there are some really dedicated individuals who saw the demise of the company that created Descent, who are working to keep a 6DOF genre alive.

    They can have my bandwidth when they pry it out of my COLD DEAD HANDS. I only have 768k upstream right now, and there will be hell to pay if they want to remove accounts for actually using the allotted amount.

    I couldnt agree with you more. I have the same UL speed and I use it to host game servers. My ISP has told me time and again that it is alright for me to do so. The RIAA can go to hell if they want to get ISPs to agree to this.

    It just so happens that Descent 3 (both the game and the game servers) seem to run quite happilly under basic Wine. I run the three "Crypt" servers listed here.

    I'm a big fan of Wine.
