Well there's a simple fix: Dont buy the damned thing. WTF. I swear the parent reminds me of a car alarm that won't shut up. Dell can sell THEIR machines how ever teh f*ck they want.
Uhm when you are done eating your bowls of hype, I was just wondering WTF difference you think it makes whether you play quake on an AMD machine or an intel.
Neither processors have any issues running ANY iteration of quake. If you believe otherwise, you're either a fanboy , stupid, or most likely a combintation of the two.
I disagree, If you are good, boring business apps are the last thing you should worry about. If you're not good, you'd better brush up on your java, XML and get used to words like "synergy" and "adaptable, deployable, client solutions"
How many Comp. Sci. grads just "got by" in the program thinking that graduating with a 2.5 GPA would land you a $50k job JUST because it was CS.
All of my CS grads I know who actually took the time to learn the material had no problems. All of us had jobs lined up 2-3 deep before we graduated. The ones who couldn't find jobs were the people playing frisbee during their data structures class.
CS is a very rewarding field IF you put effort into it.
OMG do you ACTUALLY believe you will never need threads? I think it's time for you to pick up an OS book and go over the chapter on Threads vs Processes.
I was just wondering why you want the Xbox 360 to flop? Are you just a jaded saturn fan who wishes every console after the saturn to fail or are you just an @sshole?
"This is why I have decided to launch a new GNU/Linux distribution which requires extensive knowledge of Linux and of the computer system's internals."
OMG?! How'd you get to be such a cool guy?
As if we didn't already have enough problems with people driving and talking on their cellphones, let's find more ways to distract people driving 2 tons of steel rolling at 55+ mph.
I ran into a similar situation at Midway Games. The Technical Director asked me if I would come in for an interview (never even applied, the TD just happened to be from my Alma Matta), When I got there, I met a bunch of condescending people, who acted like I was falling all over myself just to hand them a resume. Needless to say I turned down the request for a 2nd interview.
There arrogance was a little a ironic to me since, they haven't shipped a decent game since MKII:)
I'm sorry but a "Master's In Computer Science from an accredited university" tell me nothing about you. I mean if you want advice on what you should do, maybe you should tell us what you're specialty is or atleast what you are interested in. Graphics? Networking? Security? OS? DB? C'MON MAN! give us something! CS is too broad of a field to not have a specialty/interest. And YOU ARE a master's student!
CS grads without an idea of what they want to do with it, become web-monkeys ($50k for college to get a job writing PHP scripts hehehe ) or they get crappy IT jobs.
He sounds like a relatively smart guy but since MC is a retail chain, maybe they were less impressed with his people/sales skills than his A+ certified bumper sticker.
"Drivers and viruses [edit virii, btw i have a master's degree is plural forms of words] and stupid configuration dialogs you need a masters degree[1] to decipher."
Have you ever even installed WinXP? Maybe installing an OS is a little too advanced for you if you crack at such world-shattering questions as "What time zone are you in?"
As for "Works right out of the box". I was able to fire this machine up AND reply to your message in IE of all things and I don't have a master's degree in 'puters.

Really? Let me borrow a pen, so I can write that down on the list of things I give a shit about.
No need to make excuses man, we all like you and believe you are very popular.
wait, wait, wait. You are waaay more popular on AIM than he is and somehow you think YOU win?

There's a nice quote by Dijkstra to the effect that Computer Science is as much about computers as Astronomy is about telescopes.
EXACTLY. The parent sounds like the kind of guy who puts "Computers" on his list of skills on his resume.
Jocks vs Nerds? have fun in the locker, buddy!
I, for one, welcome are new Jock overlords...

uhm i'd get a refund from whoever taught you programming if this is a problem.

I think you should wait until next year to tell him that the show wasn't real either.

You're at slashdot, where posters don't read the articles posted, and the editors just don't care about the articles posted.

it's because it's running on the U3 engine.
"they're not really "dynamic content", they're just static content which changes very frequently"
I can't tell if this is a joke or not. If it is, cheers! if not, dear lord, sign up for a dictionary's word of the day.
Great that's what we need robots telling us how infallible Macs are...oh wait, slashdot is already there.
I guess reading a couple articles and doing a little research is completely out of the question for you?
