How is netflix nickel and diming me? It's one rate for streaming to multiple devices, then X amount more depending on how many physical discs you want to hold.
Nickle and diming is what Verizon does - X amount for Y amount of texts, or download limits, or download speeds, or service areas, or content packages, or voice minutes, and of course this is also largely dependent on which device you are using. And multiple devices? psh. Overcharges on service? That's a another horrible part right there.
That's real nickle-and-diming. There are so many gotchas I'd need a small book to describe it all. But this netflix hate I do not understand - it's simple and cheap. Is it that you want their service to be free?
Will overseas manufacturers be able to stop pawn shops from reselling user trader foreign goods and force them to check that the individual had the permission to resell?
I can only see this being used by over aggressive DA's in the US to put pressure on pawn shops they don't like in case they illegally bought a foreign made/sold object.
So great. Gotta be careful you're not breaking the law buying that new watch from a small business or the police might be able to repossess your items in the name of them being used in a crime.
Ugh, get the rumor right! The lower level parks were not better, but more suited to the time and place of their public patronage.
That's why the Kentuckian theme park "Burning Coprorate Tobacco Plantations is Gods Will" was hugely successful in the early 20th century epoch, but could never survive in today's largely public tobacco-free environment.
Certainly it was a precursor to today's creationism theme park, but which one was better?
I did hear it had a pretty sweet "Night Riders" roller coaster.
THE ALIENS HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN TO THE SCIENTISTS. NOW NO ONE IS LEFT. WHO CAN STOP THE UNSTOPPABLE?
Already I am in my bunker, my dial up connection to the world furiously pounding bits to find the true evil. Where did these monstrousities come from? There, above the stars. Truly we must prepare. Guns are ready. The aliens menace will be destroyed.
It's not that they aren't working together, I'd say that they are in tight coordination most likely, but that we have a global satellite system to communicate (TDRSS?) with to ISS and the shuttle, while the Russians have to use line of sight for direct communication (which usually lasts, what, about 8 minutes per fly-by?). I'm sure there is a lot of trust between the organizations, but still, I would guess to say that it has to do with allowing a foreign country access to the network. Still, it may be that it would be better for the Russian software and hardware teams to talk directly to the ISS, and the Russian systems installed, in which case they would need to wait for a fly over.
Besides, they already said the machines were down and couldn't be rebooted, so suppose they're still running in some frozen lock, but possibly still listening to some communications relay, in which case the Russians are the best to attempt to solve the problem, in which case the best time would be for a fly over.
In any case, here's to hoping they solve the problem! The people working on the shuttle software are some of the best in the world, I doubt any other team could do better to fix this.
C++ is not the only language which exists. Also, embedded systems sometimes do not have the resources available to use the full STL linked list, or a specific embedded language may not be compatible with the STL C++ library, requiring a new implementation of existing, 'time wasting' fundamentals. It may also be useful to re-implement such code in these memory or computing constrained areas to overcome such hindrances or give on certain aspects of the implementations to overcome bottle-necks existing within the framework of the hardware.
But yes, it is a waste of time to rewrite such things in a modern language. Doing so is an example of a wasteful programmer.
Didn't the World Wildlife Fund bring a lawsuit against the World Wrestling Federation for trademark infringement? And the whole Apple computer company fight against the Apple record label? These are hardly in the same category, but lawsuits were still brought up and won.
The thing is, it wouldn't be that hard to find out who you were with a search data set similar to your own. First of all, the all the male/female names can probably be taken out based on your other searches. There just aren't that many women interested in certain areas, and like-wise for men. Next; have you ever been in any organization in your life? They usually post your name and information on their websites. I still have my name on a high school track website from years ago. If you've ever been a member in track/quiz bowl/fraternity/sorority/band/computer club/conference speaker/open source developer or are on facebook/myspace/blogger, then you can base that information from all the people who you have searched for against these data mining operations.
See, there isn't any information that you need or use in your life that can't be tracked back to you. That's why privacy laws are so important and where problems with identity theft are just too easy to happen.
What makes you think someone is searching for their own SSN? Isn't it possible someone is searching for information on someone else? Checking to see if someone has listed their SSN else-where would help to narrow the scope of targets for data theives.
But yeah, you're probably right. Someone probably searched for their SSN to see if anybody who had taken it would use it somewhere in plain text, and assumed that the information they were passing to their trusted ISP was secure. Hah, imagine that, trusting a company to not release your private information without a warrent?
I AM SHAKING IN MA BOOTS I AM SO SCARED OH GOD HOW CS UNDERGRANDS UNPREPARED I HOPE THIS DOES NOT SPREAD TO OTHER UNIVERSITIES
Yeah, I've seen lots of cs undergrands that didn't understand what was going on. Yet somehow this is a major that students who do not fully understand the concepts of computer science can manage their way through - the proof is the ever increasing number of complaints of inadequate new hires fresh from college.
Every time I see a story about a startup raising another 10m in funding, I think about how the founders just sold off most of their company to VC's, who will most likely burn their company into the ground.
Yeah, Hitler was just playing the game. Can't really blame him, can we? After all it was what the German people wanted, so he was justified.
Godwin's law holds true!
No, I think we should be allowed to criticize them. Slashdot, a popular nerd/tech news site sent in a request to answer some interview questions from readers. At some point in the Blizzard business cycle, someone decided that these questions can only be answered by the PR department, instead of the developers that they were aimed at.
And I think it was painfully obvious who these questions were for.
Complaining about people criticizing someone who didn't answer their questions? Hell, I'd be pissed off too. Answers such as this show how little respect the company has for the community.
The problem, of course, is finding that magical first job that will hire you without either experience *or* education. Good luck with that. The most useful thing about college is the internships - the best way ever around the first job Catch-22.
Ah, yes, but this is where the fabulous world of open source technology comes into play. Any company with the ability to see a potential employee for their skills will hire someone who has managed great open source projects. By honing your skills through practical real world applications in the open source community, you can be deemed as a useful employee.
wtf? Your argument is just a straw man to take away from the real point here. The guy created software for the purpose of backing up dvd's, a perfectly legal thing to do.
And you compare this to possible security breaches from people who might be cassing a potential target? You come one step close to calling the man a terrorist because he wasn't doing exactly what was best for all the businesses out there.
Oh no! Sony (or who-ever) might lose money from people losing their original dvd's! GOD HELP US ALL!
What's the big difference between this and CentOS?
Potential cloud level vendor lock-in down to the data center. Really hurts moving to any other cloud at that point.

Rename your zip files .dat - google won't know it's a zip file and assumes it's random junk data.
When you get home rename it .zip

Wow, he sure is lame.

I have surpassed all of you! I have no product, no service, and no selling! IT'S PURE PROFIT!

google query:
how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
google response:
As much wood as a woodchuck would if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
This is the greatest use of technology the world has ever seen.
