I fully agree with you about GSM, but the minute our contract is up we are off there Network. I live and work just outside of Washington DC, and the company I work for has a Cingular repeater in the office. However I still drop calls frequently, and the network is over crowded. If I have to return a call between 5 and 7pm it is not uncommon to have to try 3 or 4 times before the call will go through.
But this is all personal experience. I know happy Cingular customers, admittedly not many of them. My step mother, who made the switch to Cingular right after we did, has pointedly stated she will no longer base her decisions on who I use, mostly due to the capacity issues. Hey, I said not to go with them.
I think we will look at T-Mobile next. I want to stay with a GSM Provider.

On the P IV at the office performance seemed on par with the Athlon 3400+ I had at home when we evaluated it except with Aero. Again the difference there was an X700Pro vs an Radeon 9250. Something that was not realistic to compare.
The Macbook is what really got me, a Core Duo backing fairly well supported hardware should not have taken (RC 1 was the installed version) several seconds to open the Start Menu, much less the...for lack of a better word, control panel. I admit the graphics chip was not supported however.

I installed Vista first when it was a beta, then RC1. Pretty much all my hardware has Vista drivers available, and has for sometime. Why it ran dog slow is beyond me. Here at the lab, we installed it on a few machines, but the fastest thing we have is a P IV 3.0 w/HT desktop (2 1/2 years old) with 2 gig of PC3200, Corsair Value Select and an 80gig sata. Again, RC1 was slow, but I attributed that to the Radeon 9250 w/64MB DDR. Now my Macbook is not yet fully supported by Vista, so it is not totally fair to consider that.
