The thing I like about having a portable video player is that I can take it to the gym, put it on the ledge of the eliptical machine and go. Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, you name it, if it has a nice format that fits into the 45 minutes to a hour I spend there I watch it.

I read this article yesterday, and I thought the same thing then. When Apple (And I'm typing this from my new Macbook) stated "'We found no instances of forced overtime and employees confirmed in interviews that they could decline overtime requests without penalty..." All I could think of was the interview I had with the health inspectors who visted us durring basic training at Ft. Benning. I was on KP in a kitchen that made the kitchen at the Long John Silvers I had worked at in high school look like a Clean Room. I mean the dishwashing room floor got up and moved when I cut the light on kind of dirty. I remember cleaning a section of floor and scraping a half inch of greese out from between tiles and that dishes comming out of the washer going onto rollers that just made them dirty again. Anyways around my third time on KP these warrent officers come out and we are told exactly what to tell them and what not to say...of course we are also told that should we choose we are free are to say whatever we want without fear of repriasal. Just that we will have to report for KP again the next morning and the morning after that. So I am sure those interviews with the Chinese employees produced acurate and honest responses. As for the turning down overtime...lets see would that be covered under the "Yes Sir, my squad will be happy to go on that mission, you all volunteer don't you." And how many of you all work for companies that have the voluntary charity controbution thing come around once a year? What is the minimum you are expected to give $5.00?

This is a very interesting case. As a local goverment Agency, I can see the school facing some interesting challenges trying to enforce something like this. What it looks like they are saying is that if they are called names or bad mouthed they can use security as a pretext for getting rid of the student (who maybe watched Pump Up the Volume one to many times). However, it does bring to mind the issues that some employee's are facing with different companies around the country trying to enforce specific standards on their workforce during and after working hours. I know several companies are now enforcing no-smoking rules, violation of which result in termination. The rational behind this is lower medical costs. However from an employee point of view this is a violation of their privacy at home.

Your are wrong there. I've used my 12in Powerbook to play a few games, and as a Mac user I can say that I am seriously disappointed in losing the Pro version at this form factor. I bought a 12in laptop for a reason, I wanted a true laptop computer. I don't want a mobile desktop (17in), I want a powerful machine in the 12in/13.3in range that does what I want. By dumping an integrated graphics chipset into that machine it sort of takes it away from me. Now I will just grab ths: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82 E16834117158

I am with you on this. I have no interest in a low end 12in MacBook or whatever they choose to call it unless it can live up to the Pro line. I love my 12in Powerbook and like the fact that I can take it with me everywhere and have no issues with size or bulk. It was the only reason I even bought a MAC to begin with. I don't want to see them push some halfway model to market that is cross between an Ibook and a Powerbook. If they do I can just go buy a 12in Windows machine for half the cost and dump SuSE on it.

The made in China sticker on the one I initally wanted caught my eye as it was fairly prominent so I looked to see what other options there where available to me. Sadly each and every model from $9.99 to $99.00 was made in China. Not one was made in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, anywhere. All where made in the good ole PRC. So I bought the $19.99 model.

With Fedora Core 3 the tools never showed up that allowed for anything other then it running at 100% until 4 came out. Kubuntu works kind of, for some reason on the 5th or 6th boot admin controls just stop working. And you can forget hardware accelleration and hybernate.
