i totally agree. I play drums in my praise band at church. That is the only time ill listen to praise music. its all the same. Afterwards i go home to my rock, mostly secular. I was talkin to a guy in a christian rock band, and he said he did the same thing. If you like a band, listen to them. Doesnt matter if they are preachin what you agree with.
If they find the right price and the right movies to sell. They might create an 'itunes' effect, except in the movie genre. Most people would buy it if it was readily available and cheap.
I dont think that the rates of infection would increase much. Just b/c microsoft gurantees a 24 hr patch doesnt mean the people will patch it. Virus writers will know this and will not increase the amount of viruses written. I think that everything would all stay the same as it is now.
the news may not be entertainment, but they still look at viewer rating. The more the people like it, the more gruesome things they'll put in the news. If you hadn't watched the news lately, bad news is good news. You never hear about the people celebrating in Iraq, you only hear about the suicide bombings. And that sends viewer rating through the roof.
It sounds like he's trying to quantify the amount of paradigm shifts per billion people. That statistic means absolutely nothing. Who cares how many 'innovations' there are per population. Of course we havent had many paradigm shifts recently because we've got the majority of new technology invented. Most of research is into evolutionary, rather than revolutionary study.
The simplest solution is usually the best. Are we alone? yes. Its much simpler to say yes than to expect the insanely high odds that some more elements should combine in the perfect way to create an organism from not much.
just ignore the statistics. As one of my teachers once told me: "Statistics are like a bikini, they hint at whats there but they don't show all thats there." or something like that, i forget the exact wording.
I think this is an amazing series. BF1942 didnt have the greatest graphics. Yet reviews of it were all outstanding. It came out in 2002 and i would still be playin it (and its mods, of which there are many good ones) except that Battlefield 2 came out. THese games have infinte replayability b/c of the human component
ya know you can also take along a USB flash drive and use that as your/home. ITs quite handy. Its like having your whole computer w/ all your programs and stuff on a cd and in your pocket.
I think that a game is only worth as much as you put into it. I like some of those harder games that take time. Starcraft, for example. If you held it up to what they are suggesting, no one would buy it. Yet it is still one of the most sold games of all times. It is hard, long and it is defintely fun. Another game i like is Ogre Battle 64 for the N64. That game takes about 50 hrs to complete. I tried playing it to find everything. It took me over 70+ hrs. And i still love that game. Its not the easiest to master, but it is wonderfully rewarding to anyone who sticks with it. IMHO.
I agree totally. I took this approach when learning linux. I started on fedora, but didnt like it. Then i switched over to Slack 10.1 and i love it. It has taught me so much about linux. My friend got Suse and alls he knows is what the GUI does. When i talk about compiling stuff, he always ask how because he has become so spoiled with the YaST.
I don't like (high) school b/c of the above reason. But me being the geek i am, was able to get a period in the day to help the school IT guy work on computers. And i get credit for it. So in a way, i hacked my own fun out of all my other easy/boring classes.
4)???
5)Profit!
but what if you kill all the aliens and none escape to reproduce...

that may be true, but broadband internet is cheap these days.

If you could mix this with the NERO game that was mentioned a few days ago: http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/27/ 2129214&tid=206&tid=10 That would be cool, except you'd have to destroy them before they got to smart or they'd take over the world.
frankly, i know no windows users who know what they're doin that have automatic updates enabled. they all manuallly get them from windows update.

welcome our new steam-spewing Godzilla overlords.

...would it run linux?

unless that 99% is play games. Then they can only do like 3% of what they wanted to do.
I believe the author is referring to microsoft and sony. They got what they paid for.

Wait a second....are you saying Doom is a strong story based game?
are you new here? Dont you realize that this politiking going on will infringe on our rights as geeks. Why shouldnt we protect our rights?

Finally they found some money to put it somewhere.
