    the university where im at, the lecturer on our web authoring course encourages us to " get a life " if we like windows, or internet explorer.
    Problem is, hes a mac fan and encourages us to get one of those instead.

    its the people who willingly abuse it
    patents, when applied for and granted PROPERLY are a good thing. However when they`re just used to cover your bases, so you can wait for some unlucky person to come along and try to do what youve patented, you can slam him with a lawsuit.

    i think it was suggested a fair few stories like this back by someone for a use it or lose it style system, although it would create more lawsuits short term. it might just reduce the lawsuits which wait for a company or person to become nice and fat, for skimming.

    The best solution would be to have those staff at the US patent office especially, but also other patent offices around the world to have the time, staff, training and ability to scrupulously check every single application.
    perhaps barring those who apply for dodgy patents for a year or two? might be a little extreme to do that but its an idea at least.

    Some of the stories on /. sound remarkably like an advert by someone trying to ( for some unknown reason ) get their server slashdotted. has slashdot become merely a " adverts for geeks, stuff that doesnt always matter ( or survive ) " site ?

    that aside, ive still to get around to upgrading my fedora install to fc3. i think ill wait another week or so for any potential problems to have been found out by others ( read: i feel lazy )

    Offtopic but, what the buggery is the american obsession with silly acronymns nowadays?
    are the american people so stupid that they`ll fall for anything with a catchy sounding sequence of letters for a name?

    Examples : P.A.T.R.I.O.T. , S.T.O.P. , I.N.D.U.C.E. etc etc.
    Im sure a word is thought up, and the words describing what the new law is about are fitted around it.

    why dont banks just set up 'monitored' accounts and put a little bit of money in it, then follow the trail
    Phisher thinks theyve caught someone out, logs in and transfers money away ( im guessing to a relay account unless they`re REAL stupid ) , which relays on and on until it eventually gets somewhere the phisher can do something with
    the money ( or goods they might buy with it online ) have got go to somewhere, right? :)

    to me, it sounds like a knee-jerk, petty reaction from bungie " talk about it and we ban you " is daft, you cant stop people talking about it however, if they`d said something like "talk about where to get it on our forums and we'll screw you over" or along those lines, it'd have sounded more sensible to me at least.
