    Mozilla Thunderbird can't auto-select Japanese fonts appropriately, IN JAPAN!

    That's because in Japan, the fonts auto-select the browser.

    That, and the fact that piracy is so rampant here that practically everything is "free", makes it hard for OSS to compete.


    Does that mean that one of the big reasons why Linux
    is a strong competitor in the west is because it's
    free & the competitors aren't?

    My contacts, for example, are marketted as daily wear. However, they're the exact same contacts that the manufacturer sells as their multi-use contacts, just in a different box.



    If you are saying that disposable & non-disposable
    contact lenses are the same, then this isn't
    strictly true.

    In the beginning, few contact lens manufactures sold their regular lenses as disposable ones. But today it's no longer true.

    I have just submitted a story to slashdot which says that I am considering downloading a movie from Napster as soon as they start providing it.

    There's a progman.exe in XP sp2, (\windows\system32\progman.exe) but I can't get the thing to run. I've used progman.exe in ME before. It's been updated with each release of windows and is probably kept for legacy purposes.


    I think progman.exe can still be used as the default shell by tweaking some registry settings though I haven't tried it.

    Other than that, some legacy setup programs rely on being able to start Progman.exe & install some icons on it.

    Plus, there are a lot of icons available in progman.exe which can be used otherwise.

    Am I the only one who can't hear the audio on this file? I've tried totem, xine and vlc, and nothing wants to play the audio... Nah, I can hear it fine. You probably have an *IOERROR*.

    The conventional argument I recall for using header files, and incremental compilation, is that it's faster to use a makefile and conditionally build only those files that have changed


    No it isn't. Header files doesn't help in incremental compilation. Atleast not in C.

    The reason for header files is
    1) Function prototyping. Otherwise, you may have
    to prototype functions in all source files
    2) For structure definitions. Otherwise, you may
    have to do it in all source files.
    3) #defines. Same reason

    and so on & so forth.

    Is there something I am missing here?

    Try getting your returns after the tax season. You can't. So if you print out copies but they are lost/destroyed, you're basically fucked. Happened to me this last year.. now I'm going to get to re-file Federal. Fortunately I don't owe anything.


    I use this to get a copy every year.

    So I've decided to vote Libertarian If you are a Kerry supporter, this is stupid, IMHO. Assuming Kerry wins the Electoral Vote, but loses the Popular Vote, then his presidency will have the an air of illegitimacy about it. Bush was able to overcome this because partly because he didn't care, & partly because the Republicans controlled the house & senate. If you truly want to send a message about Bush, the only way to do it is if Kerry wins the Popular Vote also & by a decent margin. This is where Blue state votes are also very important for Kerry.

    This is true since the time of Sam Walton.
    Sam Walton used to travel coach when he travelled
    & used to share a hotel room with others he travelled with.

    Sam Walton used to say that every penny I spend
    unneccesarily comes from the customers wallet & I
    have to make sure Walmart cuts any expenditure it
    can.
