It's just good business. It would be moronic to say a price cut is imminent. It would be moronic to say that they didn't include a feature because of legal issues.
I believe Microsoft is much worse at lying and FUD, except Microsoft is creating grassroots FUD through bloggers and review sites.
The worst is those that are consistently modded up by Microsoft fanboys such as:
+5 Insightful: The PS3 is too expensive, Sony keeps shooting themselves in the foot, the PS3 has NO games
+4 Insightful: The Wii has no games. The XBox is the console for hardcore gamers. The XBox has better graphics.
Honestly, these comments are just FUD. Of course the XBox 360 will have more games. The PS3 is better value that an XBox 360 with the same spec. The Wii is going for a different demographic and what exactly is "hardcore"? I think the PC is more for the "hardcore".
It seems like Microsoft helps plant the seeds of FUD, while they've accurately guessed that their fanboy population will propagate their FUD via forums. As it stands now, they've got the most fanboys online, so of course most of the comments will be pro-XBox 360, and especially anti-Sony.
It's sad really, to see people doing the work for a multi-billion dollar (evil) corporation.
I seriously doubt how Microsoft's evil can be triumphed by Nintendo. Microsoft is still going at it. At least Sony has started to embrace open standards with the PS3. (ie. Linux, 3rd party peripherals..)
I hope Nintendo can keep up it's lead while innovating further.
Shitty deal to you maybe... if all you want to do is play games, then yes, maybe it is a "shitty" deal. But if you are looking for a convergence device so you don't have your home theatre cluttered with gadgets, then it's a great machine and well worth the price.
WiFi, hard drive, Linux, reliability, sleeker, Blu-ray, etc.... all these things make it worth more than the XBox 360.
The story is most likely an anti-Sony piece to lower sales for the PS3. Sony has repeatedly denied a price cut, as recently as last month, but these stories keep popping back up speculating a price-cut. It's reasonable to believe that Microsoft is planting these stories to influence potential PS3 buyers to wait...and wait. After all, Microsoft's XBox 360 hasn't enjoyed a price cut even after over a year, despite it's hardware problems and a new model.
Any non-fanboys sick of reading the same tired comments over and over again? This is the problem with Slashdot, it fosters group-think. All you need is a group of fanatics with a common agenda and the system is destroyed.
If Slashdot was around in Nazi Germany, all anti-Jewish comments would be +5 Insightful, while any dissenters would be modded down as trolls.
Personal responsibility is an illusion. We are shaped by our environment. However, the cause is usually not one specific area, but rather a collection of factors.
Who are the "good guys"? Everyone gets angry at some point in time, and some people get angry enough to shoot someone. If everyone had a gun, there could be a potential deadly outcome for every emotional outburst. So while in this case there might have been less people killed if everyone was carrying a gun, these incidents might also be more common if firearms are not banned.
Sometimes the reason we don't commit crimes is because the path to commit one is too difficult.
Marketing takes a key role in how well a game sells, and so if they stagger their releases, they'll either have to split the marketing budget up, or just not do any marketing for the later release. Either way, it's better to avoid multiple release dates. The only exception is if a product isn't ready, but if they don't have the resources, then it's the next best thing.
I wonder what the reason is to bring the "Elite" version out...
1) They are trying to phase out the core 360s, so developers don't have to program for them. Bringing an "Elite" version will make the Core version seem that much inadequate, thereby dissuading people from buying it.
2) They are trying to compete against the PS3. By saying they have a larger hard drive, they can claim an upper hand to the non-technical people who associate a bigger hard drive as the most important factor.
3) Downloading content will be a key part of their strategy. 20 GB isn't enough for their future plans.
I'm sure they have documents on who can be "persuaded" to write a nice article for them and who will bash their competitors given the right incentive. I'll bet that these documents are helpful in Microsoft's current viral campaign against the PS3.
Feels like Microsoft is taking a page out of it's Windows business and putting it into the XBox 360. Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate... sound familiar? Not to mention tying in games development with Windows so developers feel the need to appeal to a greater audience and therefore develop for the Xbox/PC platform. All this sounds to reminiscent of what it's done to the PC market to the detriment of other platforms like Linux.
Same idiots who rate any anti-Sony comments +5, and any anti-XBox remarks troll. They rate every pro-Sony news as "overrated", etc...
Same people who support anti-Sony stories, but then when a positive one comes along, it's from Sony marketing. They don't realize they've been brainwashed by Microsoft's viral campaign.
..if the PS3 ended up helping out with finding a cure or treatment for Microsoft fanboys or their family members who eventually get cancer or Alzheimer's.
How is that funny? Oh I get it, Sony = Japanese company, and many Japanese can't pronounce the letter 'l'. If only the Japanese were as bigoted and racist, they would have many cases of American mispronunciations of Japanese words, but then again we don't even try because it's beneath us.
Yes, your picture is funny - to Microsoft fanboys - almost as funny as your misspelling of "desperate".
Microsoft's viral campaign is the reason. They've amplified every little blunder and released stories to the media to put the PS3 in a negative light. They've paid bloggers and commenters.
That was the seed. Since it's been going on for at least half a year, there have been many who have converted to the anti-Sony mindset, and now bash Sony on their own free will and time. They will say that it's due to purely logical reasons, but little do they know that they've been brainwashed by Microsoft's marketing.
It's just good business. It would be moronic to say a price cut is imminent. It would be moronic to say that they didn't include a feature because of legal issues.
I believe Microsoft is much worse at lying and FUD, except Microsoft is creating grassroots FUD through bloggers and review sites.
Or because the whole patent was a sham, that Microsoft bought into to prevent Sony from using it - ala SCO.
Microsoft and Immersion are the real villains here. Of course if you're a Microsoft/XBox 360 fanboy, you won't care.

He's probably getting free games and laptops from Microsoft for posting spin-news from Microsoft's marketing department.
Your opinion is even more stupid. Sorry.
Shitty deal to you maybe... if all you want to do is play games, then yes, maybe it is a "shitty" deal. But if you are looking for a convergence device so you don't have your home theatre cluttered with gadgets, then it's a great machine and well worth the price.

How is this overrated? Probably modded by a victim of Microsoft's astroturfing.
Yeah, that you're a Microsoft fanboy that also happens to have the Wii.
These are the same analysts that predict that the PS3 needs a price drop or that a price drop is imminent.
It's funny these analysts rarely bash Microsoft's console...
But you are forced to buy Microsoft's products since they have a monopoly. There is much more competition in the hardware space.

2TB, wow that's a lot of pr0n.

By the way, get Firefox.
Please, there will always be people that say stupid things.
What makes you think that Sony hasn't reprimanded Jack behind the scenes?

Sony has their work cut out for them.
Currently Yellow Dog Linux doesn't include drivers to use WiFi. When can people expect those drivers to be available?
