  1. Very misleading headline on Slow Starters Have Higher IQ? · · Score: 1

A slower "thickening of the cortex" does not mean the person is not as smart as others at a young age, it means their cortex isn't as thick. This headline completely misrepresents the finding and probably is causing much more disinformation than anything else.

  2. Re:What if it's not so gimmicky, though? on Review: Kirby Canvas Curse · · Score: 1

kirby doesn't use both screens. the top screen is just filled with indicators that could have easily been included in the main view. usually the top screen just has maps or indicators. not really that useful. advance wars supposedly makes use of both screens for gameplay (top screen for air warfare), we'll have to wait and see if its a gimmick or if it actually works well.

  3. Re:Better than teargas? on Riot Control Ray-Gun for Use in Iraq · · Score: 1

i doubt its better. it makes your body feel like its in contact with a frying pan according to that sandia article. also, if its improperly used it can probably easily do permanent damage. also the test subjects were asked to remove any metal and any contact lenses/eyeware before testing it, so if anyone has metal the metal can create a hot spot and cause burns. im sure it will eventually be improperly used too, who knows what it would do to someone if you leave it turned on too long. sounds like a disaster in the making to me. teargas seems like a better alternative.

  4. OP flashpoint was a great game! on Biases in Simulation Video Games · · Score: 1

I don't remember if it came out before battlefield or not, but it had great vehicles and very convincing long range rifle firing. Battlefield 2's iron sighting is a joke compared to what this game had. I think it was probably the most realistic FPS game I've played, and it was fun too.

  5. medical science is too much trouble to follow on Sunscreen Not So Good for You? · · Score: 1

More than anything else, medical science seems to change "common wisdom" on a day to day basis. I think I'll start chugging carcinogens and playing with x-ray machines like it's 1890. When I live to be 200 years old I hope nobody is surprised.

  6. a prebuilt kit? on Star Destroyer Built Before Your Eyes · · Score: 1, Insightful

who cares! they built it based on instructions from a kit and filmed it. it could have been moderately interesting had it been their own design. as it is, not worth a post on slashdot by any stretch.

RC cars are a joke? http://www.swami-rc.com/swami-speedrun.htm I have actually been happy with what current high capacity NiMH's can do in RC cars. My brushless motor system for my traxxas stampede monster truck can go about 20 minutes with a good 3300mAh pack. with 3800mAh NiMHs becoming available we're nearly doubling the capacity of the old NiCd packs.

  10. Re:Probably bad for eyesight. on Health Consequences of CRT Monitors? · · Score: 1

I can't tell if your post is a joke or not but a quick google search shows that: 1) eye exercise to improve vision is junk and these products are purely commercial with no scientific basis. 2) it doesnt matter how close you sit to a tv, it won't damage your eyesight. CRT's are no different than TV's. theres no magic quality they have that makes your eyes focus 2 inches behind them. (and if that were true you'd be seeing blurry text wouldnt you?). eye doctors do say you should look at distant objects once in a while.

  11. Didn't they say Episode 2 was darker? on Star Wars Episode 3 PG-13? · · Score: 1

this attitude boggles my mind. you apparently have more faith in psychology than common sense. how can it be seen as anything but ridiculous to screen entrants based on something so obviously trivial as a game they play?

"IDF has smart people working for them," so by all means lets all throw common sense out the window and give up our individual identities to be judged based on some superficial nonsense.
