I just tried it in Firefox and Opera 8.52 and it looks exactly the same.
I hear all this complaining lately that Opera doesn't render pages properly and is so much trouble, but I've got to be honest, despite using it all day as my main browser, I hardly ever notice any problems. Most of the problems I do encounter are weird things like no email address drop-down box in gmail when sending an email. Don't get me wrong, I think Opera is not built for by web developers very often, but it doesn't seem like a very big problem.
Normally I would be courteous in such a case too. However I have a feeling MyLongNickName is not interested in the particular workings of evolution. In a time when creationists are constantly looking for every silly and remote and ill-informed reason to bash evolution, it is not unreasonable to react dubiously.
If MyLongNickName is genuinely interested in evolution, then I apologize profusely for jumping down his throat. Unfortunately, it sounded to me like another creationist pretending they understand evolution and has just found another great example by which it couldn't possibly work. I don't think I'm being jumpy to feel that way.
Are you actually a biologist and/or have spent years studying evolution theory? What makes you think you are qualified to even understand this stuff? Would you expect a layman to be able to understand the nuances of your chosen proffesion?
"Most people simply do not understand what science is at a philosophical level or how it operates."
I think this is an important point. In my experience, people generally have absolutely no clue how science is actually conducted or what it is used for. They are under the impression that it is religious like in some way. The fact is that a scientific theory is an extremely complex and rigorously tested idea, usually not easily explained in plain english and by no means easily explainable in a short period of time (other than a brief overview). Let's get real: If you haven't done extensive research on the topic, you are not in a position to argue about it.
I don't think you have any depth of knowledge of what you are speaking about. Evolution does not describe the beginning of the universe (if that is indeed what you are trying to describe), but simply the mechanism and catalyst by which life undergoes change. Creationism does try to describe the beginning of the universe, suggesting that the entire thing was created for humans.
Honestly this is one of my biggest beefs with so many people: They make claims far outside of their knowledge level, and argue not ever understanding how complex the subject really is. There are thousands of people who are spending their ENTIRE lives understanding these topics... yet somehow you are able to hold a valuable opinion on it without doing a shred of decent research? Unbelievable.
What the heck are you talking about? SCSI based drives are the fastest, most robust drives on the market. Put a couple 15k SCSI drives in RAID0 and you will have the fastest damn drive access times possible in todays market. Very sweet, if you can afford it.
I have yet to see 15k USB drives... or RAID USB drives... or high RAM and processing power USB boards. I don't quite see how they compare.
Hehe. I don't like the incredibly rampant lieing which our society has embraced either, but by now you must realize that pretty much anything a representative of a corporation says is at least partially a lie. If you look at advertising, the lie rate rises closer to 100%. Fun.
28 days of rain in Vancouver isn't all that amazing. The current record was set 53 years ago (28 days of rain), but the north west is a really wet area. To be honest, I have hardly noticed the record being set... we ALWAYS get piles of rain. All this record means is that for 28 days, we got at least a little rain each day, which is kinda neat, but I'd bet last year we had 28 days with 27 of rain.
One of the major reasons I hate television advertisements so much is that I feel I'm being manipulated, and therefore turn on my defenses. It is difficult to enjoy something that raises your defenses. Television shows already get me agitated due to their warped realities and out right lies. It's impossible not to be affected by something you are open to constantly babbling at you... and if it babbles bullshit, then your brain becomes full of bullshit. If I didn't have a MythTV box which automatically skipped commercials, I likely wouldn't even have a TV. It would bother me too much. Now with an increase in product placement in addition to the stupidity of shows, I'm starting to think I may have to ditch my TV anyways. It makes me angry.
On the other hand, it would likely be a better world if everyone cut down on the amount of TV they watch.
Oh and I stuck the computer in a cupboard that closes near the TV so I don't see or hear it (the back of the cupboard allows ventilation). The IR receiver is on a wire that sits near the TV (remote and receiver on wire came with tuner). In the end it didn't change the look or sound of my living room at all.
Basically the only thing I bought was a TV tuner card (you can get a 350 now for about $150 I think). I used a Celeron 2.4 I had sitting around (I had bought a bunch at an auction from a company that went out of business for dirt cheap). It only has 256MB RAM, and a 60GB HD.
I'll be honest, I thought it would be nice to have a MythTV, but I never dreamed how deeply it would affect my life. I literally cannot watch normal tv anymore. I only ever watch shows that I actually want to watch, and only when I want to watch them. And I can stop watching in the middle and come back later. And it automatically skips the ads.
Suffice to say, I think it's hard to imagine until you've actually done it.
ok fair enough, it was unclear to me that you meant you guarantee it wasn't his only legal option. However, your post reeked of mightier-than-thou attitude. Personally, I think people who spend less for more are the smarter ones.
Wow, you guarantee it's not? That's funny, because according to US law (see other posts in thread), it's actually not illegal. But you go ahead and hold onto your superior moral compass, just like the fundamental religious idiots.
I can tell you've never used a PVR. Before I setup my MythTV, I just thought it would be neat and would enjoy a weekend project. After using it for a few weeks, I began to feel a fundamental shift in the way I view the television. It's impossible to understand unless you actually do it, but MythTV freed me from shackles I didn't even realize I was wearing. The TV became a system that brought me entertainment I wanted, when I wanted it.
Honestly a VCR isn't even a comparable technology. This isn't about recording shows, per se, but about taking control of your TV.
Well, I've never used a Tivo so I can't directly compare it to MythTV (which I do use). However, the one feature you list, it rewinds a little after you stop fast forwarding, is also on MythTV.
And truth be told, the MythTV interface is really easy to use, even right when you first sit down with it. In fact I find using it to be a pretty much invisible process... which is good since what I want to do is watch my tv shows!
You're assuming morals require a god. Truth be told, if the only reason you don't kill me is because your 'god' told you so, then I don't want to be anywhere near you.
I reposted your comment on a spanking new blog of mine http://tickletrap.blogspot.com/ and just wanted to make sure that was ok with you. If not let me know!
Please provide evidence for such a bold statement. I highly doubt it to be accurate.

What was the game doing on the car seat? All my games are on a shelf somewhere... it's really odd.

Why does it need to be justified?
affect :)

This just pisses me right off.

I built a MythTV box.

Holy shit that made me cry of laughter. Thanks.
That's funny, I was thinking all the same things about my MythTV.
