It's a fine career for somebody who wants to make some relatively easy money. Somebody who gets their feelings hurt over "ageism" is going to get their feelings hurt in any industry.

  2. I don't know anything about networks of that size. Our is less than 100 devices, so spending many thousands on Cisco stuff doesn't make sense. Whatever level the product is, it should work. From our experience, none of the low-end Cisco works as advertised. IPSec VPN tunnels drop randomly. WAN connections drop randomly. SSL not handled correctly. VPN's occasionally handle through-traffic correctly. We've seen this consistent level of inconsistency across more than half a dozen Cisco routers (all of the Cisco routers we've ever used). We replaced ours with routers from Draytek, and have been very happy.

  3. After years of fighting with Cisco garbage, we're replacing all of our Cisco equipment, and the last router goes tonight. Maybe their high end stuff was decent, but their low and mid end stuff is real junk. Won't ever use it again. Apparently, we're not the only ones who feel this way...

Congratulations. You're paying interest. I'm sure that the bank loaning you this money is very happy about it.

National defense is a "small fraction" of what we spend? The smallest percentage I found was 16%, and the highest was 54%. This program alone cost $379 BILLION dollars. I'm no economist, but I have to imagine a few million people could be educated or could get some medical care for the price of just these silly jets.

If these jets make you feel "safer", somehow, that's good for you. I'm sure that they'll really help with the CIA-created terrorists driving trucks into crowds of people or hijacking planes with box cutters. Call me crazy, but I'd feel a whole lot safer if we could spend that same money to educate people out of their bronze-era ideas about gods and wizards, instead.

    1. We're well beyond "national defense". You don't know much about history, and I don't have much interest in educating you, but the US INVADES other countries. The US hasn't had to defend itself since WW2. The Contsitution doesn't allow for the US government to unilaterally invade other countries and slaughter people.

    2. The money the US is wasting on our military (which is larger than the next SEVEN countries' military, by the way), could easily be spent on helping people, preferably our own, on things like health care and education, yes.

    3. The standard of living in the US is the lowest among modern countries. So congrats that you and your family have gotten lucky in not having a major medical problem, and congrats on all of the luck in your life, but you're not indicative of US citizens. Amazon gets 30% of everything sold there. There's HUGE incentive for them to let anybody sell whatever they want because:
    - 30% is a lot. Last I checked, it was 30% of the sale price AND shipping
    - Amazon doesn't make anywhere near 30% on just about everything else they sell, themselves. Much of their stuff is sold at a loss.

Now why somebody would want to give up 30% of the price (PLUS shipping) is beyond me. There are very few things that have the kind of markup it would take to make any money after that huge commission. I suppose that there's always somebody dumb enough to think that if you somehow sell enough stuff for a loss, eventually, you'll make money...?
