  1. Kinda reminds me of an episode of Star Trek on 101 Keys Soaking Wet: The Flexboard · · Score: 1

I think the idea of large cumbersom objects being foldable/rollable was demostrated well in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation when Captain Picard fell in love with the ship's new doctor and she whipped out a full sized piano she had rolled up to roughly the size of a stromboli! It would be convienient for people with laptops who perfer full full sized keyboards when they don't have to worry about space considerations, like in a hotel room. Once they are able to do this with monitors, a whole new era of portable computing will start. Rollable (or at least foldable) cell phones will probably be the next wave of compact communication.

Sega is gonna have a major piracy problem on their hands. Not only that, but if they port Bleem! to the DC, Sony will have Sega's ass on a platter!

IT HAS A VIRUS!!" Who would have thought "Happy99.exe" could be evil? ;) Thanks pine!

  6. Saw this on Discovery on Controlling Your Computer with Your Brain · · Score: 1

Scientists have been using children as test subjects in seeing how well humans can control their own brainwaves, and using them to trigger computer events. They would set the kid up with some nifty electrodes on his or her head and a game would run where the child would see a dolphin swimming on the screen and they would have to try to use their mind to keep the dolphin above the waterline. Their score would increase depending on how long they kept the dolphin up. I can't say I remember what the results where, but check www.discovery.com and see if they have anything.

Nextly, why not just have a hardware key system for such things? Years ago I bought a copy of the Encyclopedia Britanica on CD and to use it you needed a small plug inserted in your parallel port to use it, lest it not work at all and to prevent copying (it was expensive). So if you want to use it, you gotta have the key, or even maybe, give one to one agent and another to another agent, and they both have to be inserted to make the laptop work.

Some rhymns and a computer beat generator and I could be a rapper. I'm not particularly scared though, once his smart lawyers educate him on how unphesable his idea his, he will back off.

It's worthless now. The program is a good 2 - 6 meg download just for the ability to play real media, and even the most basic package of downloads includes things most people never want or need!! I've taken the time to mess around with the BeOS, and it is an extrodinarily user friendly, stable, and asthetically pleasing operating system. However, it lacks one thing...ANYTHING! Be does include some nice programs for the most basic of tasks (email, web, word processing), but it because it lacks almost any hardware support, most average users are barred from using it. It developers took the wee bit of extra time to develop cross-platform drivers for their products, Microsoft wouldn't be the staple that it is today. There is absolutly nothing wrong with Be, in fact there are many things very very right with it, but it lacks any sort of support by the industry, and that will be its downfall. Users today have given the majority of their support to Linux and because of user and industry support, the Linux movement is growing because it is more useable with modern equiptment, but Be is limited by a small group of developers and a few devoted users. God Speed Be, you have my vote, if you could all my hardware to run at par on your OS!

About a year ago at the end of my junior year of highschool I was tested and diagnosed with ADHD at my own request. One of the suggestions made was that I have a laptop in class to make my notes considering I type much MUCH faster than I write by hand. I will be getting my own laptop soon as a graduaction gift, but have used one in class at various times and besides that added advantage of being able to listen to the teacher and blindly type at the same time, I also have access to various cd-rom encyclopedias and whatnot. My school also has a DHCP server, allowing me to plug-in and access the network and all my c++ files in apcs class. There is also the added bonus of taking mp3s with me and playing Half-life between class, but hey, I'm just in it for the education ;)
