On the first glance, that obviously looks like a good idea.

The drawback would be that e.g. in my case my tires hold like 4 - 5 years, because I don't drive much.
A new set of tires is like 600EUR ...

If I have to pay an extra 1000EUR or 2000EUR tax on that, people would consider to postpone buying new tires.

That is not what we want ...

Actually the insurance costs are tied to the amount of km you drive per year, or you could have a mandatory 2 year check (we have it anyway for car safety/damage) and settle taxes on the reported km (and other things like pollution)

We have a tax on the car, which has several purposes. It pays mostly for roads and it depends on pollution, so you are encouraged to switch to a less polluting car.

The gasoline tax here is absurd high, but is free money for the state. It is not really used for road maintanance. On top of that we have tolls for trucks. Actually a fraud system, because the state had the braindead idea to hand the toll system out to a consortium of private companies, and the companies get 50% of the toll.

Now they consider to introduce the tolls for private people, too ...

The study indicates that video games (violent video games?) don't cause people to run mad and shoot.

My point was: if you do something 8h a day it changes your thought processes, for the good or the bad.

The world has changed. 40 years ago we thought we could reduce world hunger by having GMO foods growing in the hunger zones. But then we realized: the hunger zones are not hungry because of bad harvests, but because of poverty, tyranny or bad options for food distribution.
    Thirdly:
Claiming someone knows not much about a topic is rather retarded. I don't have your posting history in my mind, but you always where super aggressive, and I don't recall a post or position of yours that indicates you have any knowledge about agriculture.
    Fourth:
We have about 12 million farmers in the EU.

  13. It is more important to look at ACTUAL VIOLENCE. Video game players have significantly LOWER arrest rates for violent crimes than peers who spend little time playing.
    Obviously.
They have no time harrassing other people and get arrested for it. They spent 8h or more playing, and if they have bad luck 4h - 8h at school or university.
On the other hand if playing any game is not mind altering for you, you likely have a mental probelm, too.

Sure, you could craft a crop that can more or less strife in a desert. But: it is much cheaper to buy the food on the world market. In the 1970s tjose markets only marginally existed.
In our days you can buy everything you want. The probelms are wars and partly distribution, not farming.
