I fail to see the problem with such a scheme. Of course this would make the driver much less a factor in success and the development team all the more so. But why shouldn't they get any credit these days?
"Would stores buy "smell printers" to pipe the smell of popcorn or fresh-baked bread near the high-margin retail shelves? Conceal the true value of a shelf of wines by piping in the smell of Grange Hermitage over the top? Bad smells near the cash office or complaints desk?"
Funny you should say that, because there are artifcial scents on the market with the smell of "fresh bread", for instance, used to entice customers in buying bread.

" the iPod is going to start facing tough competition from the mobile phone manufacturers soon"
That is something that was said a few years ago as well, and still the phones haven't caught up. Probably because combining a mp3 player of ipod quality with a phone of sonyericsson quality would grow the size of the phone beyond "stick it in your pocket"-size, if you're not willing to compromize on the functionality of either.
well, given that their last set of teeth will probably set in at an old age, I _would_ say that this is death of old age. Otherwise people don't die from old age either, but from cardiac arrest and the likes.
...while your post adds insightful counterpoints, backed by data from reputable sources......and does not at all look like a typical patriotic knee-jerk reaction we've come to associate with americans. Forgive us, but sometimes this patriottic behaviour strikes us as weird and disproportional. Does any democracy not benefit from a critical review of its citizens?
Fot those amongst you that can understand Dutch, there's a good book by geologist Salomon Kroonenberg on this. In the book he argues that the timescale of significant climate changes is on the order of ten thousand years, not the meagre hundred we are so obsessed about. Quite a good read. The book is called "De menselijke maat".
given that your average MRI scanner is about the size of a room, uses a magnetic field of several Tesla and is severely susceptible to outside interference, I doubt that you want to take this in the real world.
Not only will you have a doughnut the size of a truck on your head, you'll also be the major attraction to many cars, keys and fire extinguishers outside that become lethal projectiles as soon as they are caught in the magnetic field. On the other hand, the superconducting coils' need for liquid hydrogen means that you always have the hydrogen to keep your head cool under these circumstances...
actually, the first thing greenpeace commented when the budget for ITER was set free, was that they (GP) could supply perhaps 10k households with wind electricity with that amount of money. So yes, they're stupid. There wasn't even any wind that day.
In fact, ITER theoretically has a net power output (by about a factor of 3), yet is significantly smaller than a coal-fired plant. Breakeven point was achieved in england a while ago and was even featured in slashdot. mind you, that's years ago.
The biggest (and perhaps only) problem with ITER is the wall material though. Much research needed there.
So that's where the minus sign should have gone, I knew I dropped it somewhere!

Hex's pen was scratching across the paper. Ponder glanced at the figures. `..., these figures can't be right!` Ridcully grinned again. `You mean either the whole world has gone wrong or your machine is wrong?` `Yes!` `Then I'd imagine the answer is pretty easy, wouldn't you?` said Ridcully. `Yes, it certainly is. Hex gets thoroughly tested every day` said Ponder Stibbons `Good point, that man,` Said Ridcully.
tablets have been around for years (even Compaq used to make a tablet-like laptop (one where the keyboard was optional)), and still they haven't caught on. If there was any sense in a tablet, it would have been successful already.
IMO it is also dependent on which iPod you use, I found that the Nano sounds much better than the 3G iPod (15Gb version). Did anyone else come across this?
Oh yes, because if the heat paste is applied in the incorrect manner, the heat will not be conducted well, the chip will overheat and you'll notice much less of the heat on the outside.
get your facts straight before dissing the mac.
I've got my PB G4 for two years now and the only thing that has broken was the hard drive, and that was even my fault. The Fujitsu Siemens I had for 4 years before had to be sent in for repair 13 (!) times. broken displays, hard drives, video memory and whatnot.
I fail to see the problem with such a scheme. Of course this would make the driver much less a factor in success and the development team all the more so. But why shouldn't they get any credit these days?

Hmm. where is the time that the only requirement was that you could get your car down the track as fast as possible?
I think they overregulated formula 1. Too many restrictions on engine, fuel type, gearbox type, wing type, tire type, everything.
They should reinvent something like formula 0, with the only restriction of getting round the track as fast as possible.

Upgraded my 2 year old powerbook G4 as well to a 1G, and even there it made a huge difference.
Good luck!

well, why should apple sell anything in the US anyway? It's no important market my Norwegian standards!

barring any feedback mechanism, yes, we would have a dead planet by now.
Where does the exponential factor come from?
What I'm most worried about is the vast CO2 reserves in the rainforests and seabeds. Once they are released we are up for a fast-paced climate change.

I think this is because your powerbook is of the older variety (like mine) and doesn't have a motion sensor..

Well, money is one of the few punishments the EU can hand out to MS. It is impossible for the EU to order MS to split up.
The EU fines MS on a daily basis and it is up to MS to cure itself.
