A lot of audiophile equipment doesn't come in 19" format. it's only the (semi-) professional stuff that does. The DJ tables, amplifiers and light switches. They aren't necessarily good, but they're generally more rugged.

Good audiophile equipment is not marked by a form factor. Get a "What Hi-Fi?" magazine and see for yourself.

Right. Have you _seen_ ESR machines? They aren't really small machines to begin with.
Plus they can measure only bulk material. Meaning you get a full spectrum of the molecules in the sample. A position resolved analysis on a location on a spinning disk, therefore, seems a bit farfetched. Apart from the fact that when a metal is used, there is a conductivity band involved, meaning that your electrons will be all over the place anyway.

And _then_ try to distinguish between the spin of different electrons and ascertain how they correllate to your data..
nah, I'd say it's pretty much a lost cause just yet.

Well, the voltage of the battery is dependent on the charge you ask of it. AFAIK, the standard battery is capable of maintaining a higher voltage at a certain current than the rechargeables.

Well, in a technique unrelated to these special lenses, there is SNOM, or Scanning (Probe) Near-Optical Microscopy, in which an AFM-tip is used through which UV light can be measured (using a fiber). Put a UV source underneath your sample, and use the AFM tip to record an optical image.
The trick is, that the AFM tip is very close to the surface, much closer than the UV wavelength. Thereby the lightwaves to not have the pathlength to interfere and cancel out, and you can get optical microscopy images with a resolution of about 1/10th the wavelength of the used source.

It appears Amelio already did much of the reorganisation needed for keeping the company afloat, thus paving the way to success for Jobs.
However, the information on the discussions with Gates shows that Amelio wasn't as charismatic as Jobs was, and that may have been the killing blow.
It also shows the disastrous effects a ruined presentation can have. Equipment failures and bad planning forced the CEO to ad lib his presentation and it turned into a badly cue'd 3 hour "drone-athon" instead of the 1.5 hour show it was supposed to be. Heed this warning all ye gentlemen.
All in all an interesting read that also shows the Jobs already forcing things to his hand in the few months he got back. Apparently he also had Jobs afficionado's in place since the early days in various positions at Apple.

interesting idea, but there is a catch, which is that most of the magnetism gets absorbed in the metal shielding around the cylinder. You'd need to construct the engine out of a nonmagnetic, yet highly durable material.
I think the crankshaft design is quite optimized these days and that very little energy is lost by transforming vertical motion into rotation. However, coupling a wankel-engine to a dynamo would prove to be more effective. Then you'd eliminate the motion transformation altogether. I believe it was Mazda who successfully applied a wankel engine in one of their later models, so I'd be inclined to apply this technique.
