  1. Billionaire's protection against the flu on A Flu Pandemic? · · Score: 1

You can't get immunized against the flu because no one knows what it will look like... Well, let's do a backtrack search of all possible mutations, get the 1000 most likely to happen and that could produce a pandemy, make a vaccine for each one of them, have this cocktail.

  3. Open DNS on A Monroe Doctrine for the Internet · · Score: 1

Ok I'll tell it once more. The centralized DNS systems stinks, there is a far better way to administrate it. Anyone with a public signature key could sign pairs of ServerName/IP and share them. Actually a peer to peer network could exchange such "trusted" pairs easily. This means anyone could become a central authority for DNS... now I don't have to trust anyone. I would probably decide to trust DNS pairs signed by Gnu, Microsoft and IBM, but I could have other choices. Providers could even decide only to sign non-porn domains for child protection etc.

And even if you do, there can be so many nested hidden encrypted partitions... And what about steganography... I'm sure it can be done at the file system level, setting permissions on file, tweaking file names etc. Well ok, terrorists are not perfect, they might not know about all this, but still... one day they will.

Of course when people are not available to play 24/24 they don't want to be idle, they want to progress in the game. Forbidding botting is absurd. They should instead INCLUDE botting in the game by providing scripting facilities to players when they are away. Of course you'll tell me, not everyone knows how to write script... that is true. But many scripts could be exchanged between players, software that produce script with a wizard could appear etc. They should embrace it, not fight it.

But when it comes to scenario he SUCKS - BIG TIME Sorry, but IMHO he messed up 2001, it's a huge panaroma of beautiful symbolic images but I am under the impression he simply did not get the book. The same is true for the Shining, great movie, beautiful, whatever you want... He changed the scenario, turning a "living house" type of horror novel into one's man mental breakdown, fine with me, and then he screws up the whole movie letting a ghost open a door. A.I? Now Spielberg might have save parts of it but the influence of Kubrick is still very palpable in the mediocrity of the scenario... my my my...

Honestly, I want to love Openoffice and to advocate it... I have worked in finance on excel, dealing with huge huge spreadsheets and many graphs... Have you tried to plot a 10 000 points graph in OOo Calc vs excel... in excel it is done in less than a second... In OOo the application will freeze for half and hour before slowly starting to display the graph. Cherry on the cake it will conviniently try to write "ROW" under each point in a huge ugly font. After that, changing the data means of course waiting half an hour again because the chart is updating. OOo calc simply doesn't do the job, how hard I wish it would.
