  3. No, No, Hell No! on Keeping Customer From Accessing My Database? · · Score: 1

    I have this this happen b4. Here are the reason you keep the customer out of the data. Confidentiality & Security: Unless you are an expert in DB security who's to say that one customer won't "accidentally" access another customers data. Poorly formed queries: I worked for a company that had a VERY large online database application, our own programmers crashed the live system by pushing code containing poorly formed queries that included, of all things, never ending loops. Bog Down: Your system will show signs of stress when all your customers start banging on it from every direction trying to pull thier EOM's, EOW's, and the ever tiedious EOY using the before mentioned poorly formed queries. My friend the solution here is to remain steadfast in your current course. If the customer really wants to write their own queries, provide them the data structure of the data that can be queried, let them send the query to you to proof and then run it. You can then charge them for Query Analysis, and whatever else you can think of. Unless they know what they are doing, they'll give up after the first try.

  9. To Hate or Not to Hate... on Why Does Everyone Hate Microsoft? · · Score: 1

    For me, "hate" is not the correct term. Perhaps despise would more accurately reflect how I feel towards (m)icrosoft. I know their product is getting better, and what they have done as a company for the advancment of the technology has been as stated; "... a computer in every home ..." But I have 2 problems with (m)icrosoft; 1) They are like a plague, they keep spreading, and growing, and taking over everything. Hey Redmond!, Enjoy the empire you've got... Give others a chance! 2) Their history of how they got the way they are is highly questionable. From the illgotten gains of their original hit product (w)indows, which was not of their creation, but of their duplication. And all the smaller companies who were forced out of business by them, legally or not. Not to mention the EGO of Mr. Gates himself in the early years of (m)icrosoft. TIP #2 Redmond, there will always be someone else who is better and faster then you. Once one has accepted that, one can be at peace with one's self and one's selfworth.

    Here is what (m)icrosoft needs to do;
    Put out products that work, not "works as designed." Use some common sense. We don't want to patch and upgrade every day.
    Clean up your your image. Work honestly and ethically.

    That's my (R)eport (A)bout (N)egative (T)hings

SETI is a federally funded program, it is run on nearly every univeristy computer lab work stations not is use. Indiviuals across the world have set up small SETI "processing stations", processing teraflops per second of radio and signal data. All this, in effort to PROVE ONCE AND FAR ALL; That "MAN-KIND" is to self centered to realize that it may not be the most superior life in the universe.
