How, exactly, would cutting copyright to 50 years stop the MAFIAA? Even if you cut it to 5 years they would still be heavy handed asses (actually probably even more so).
A better way is to expand fair use, legally, to cover all non-commercial (money making) use.
You know, I have a profoundly pro-piracy point of view, but your post is a bit shrill on the subject of what is, ultimately, just entertainment.
If the dumbasses can't get their act together and work together at least on some single proprietary DRM standard, let them suffer the inevitable failure of their projects. Until then, I agree, don't play their games.
I'd be inclined to agree with you, except that witnessing the changes over the last 15 years or so in computing, I think the trend is going in a very bad direction. I agree that appliance computing, per se, is not bad at all.
But the thing is, over time, RMS seems MORE sane and correct, as opposed to less. So I'm starting to take that extreme point of view more seriously these days.
Basically, this is a technology where, if a short develops and a circuit is broken, it will immediately repair the circuit?
Are we sure that is a good thing? If there is a power problem, for example, couldn't that just cause a new short to happen somewhere more expensive to repair?
So...what do you suggest, that will actually do any good?
Sad as it is, getting attention is critical in our democracy. Just look at the effect of Wikipedia et al. yesterday has had on our Senate?
When we live in a time of legalized bribery, where almost all politicians are hopelessly corrupted, do you really think normal means can work?
Fuck 'em.
Can we please stop equating taking down a website with taking down the entity it represents?
Taking down a website doesn't do jack (except register a note of protest, of course).
But it's really not very serious.
lol...you really think Windows activation stops piracy?
Go search for "Windows" on the piratebay, or any other torrent site you like.
Dream on.

lol and you still use windows because....?
:-)
I've got a few necessary Windows only apps, and that's what my Windows Virtualbox VM is for

No, it's still asinine.
Or is FAT32 so innovative?
This is akin to forcing forum operators to police the content of their forum.
What madness. It's not even possible, even if it's a good idea.
No, but the free exchange of information, is.
Protecting copyrights this way is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Free speech is well worth tolerating massive copyright infringement.
ie. if they can block this, they can block your website with your political views with a spurious copyright claim.
It's not hard to understand, really.
No, only when it's obviously nonsense.
By Jove you're right, it's a brilliant invention!
Seriously?
mod parent up.
mod parent up!
How could it possibly be a scam when it works?
I have one, and I think it's great.
You're out of your mind.
The only good news is that all these retarded patents will expire, and at least in less than life + 75 years.
This is a great idea--you should do it!
they have a website, don't they? ;-)
sure would be a shame if something happened to it, so you could leave a comment!
Just because we are a small group, doesn't mean we are wrong.

It's not Google that denies us root, but the phone manufacturers. They alter Android so that it is harder to get root.
Check out the actual Google Nexus line of phones, and you can get root with a simple command--basically "gimme root". No hacks required.
I'd say it's more in line with "destroying innovation now" than the past tense.
Or do you really think patent's like the famous Amazon One-Click patent are worth a damn?
You do realize you don't even have to show a working copy any more...
lol check out Halliburton's or Brown and Root's Jobs pages.
:-)
Seriously.
You are very naive
May I ask, what kind of IT work do you do over the internet this way? It sounds great, but I wonder if my skills are what is needed.
Programming? And if so, what kind?
Thanks!
