    I'm sure you're right, but I think that word doesn't mean what you think it means (any longer).

    The problem is the Senate Rules they're playing under these days which require 60 votes to do anything important.  The rules are essentially designed to require consensus, which is not, personally, what I hired them for.

    Maybe the question you should be asking yourself is, why have you allowed your company's business to go downhill because of some abstract idea you have about the mythical idea of stealing music?  You are essentially blaming others for your screw ups.  Business is business.  What is the benefit to that nice old man of your supposed scruples?

    What nonsense.  Just because the music industry hasn't caught up with reality doesn't mean you have to hang yourself for their benefit.  The day of paying for the transportation of a song is long gone, you and they just haven't realized it, yet.  It won't be too much longer before it is all tolerated.  After all, the only alternative is to run RIAA logic on all computers.  And that is a stupid, stupid idea.

    You know, I think it's worth noting that Linux IS a commercial offering.  It was generated by the self interest of those who made it, who couldn't get what they needed from MS.

    Ballmer and co. need to go take Economics 101 and try selling people what it is they want to buy.  Supply/demand.  Complicated.

    Yeah, they really aren't very bright--they were just at the right place at the right time.

    Problem is they have no vision, none.  They don't even know what that means.  Every time they try it on, it fails (Windows 98 Channels, anyone? the list is endless).  Those two guys should give up control of the company to someone with brains, then they'll be in great shape.  But they won't do that because they don't know they're dumb--probably surrounded by yes-men, after all.

    I think we're talking about a fairly broad definition of privacy.  For example, the drug laws are a violation of privacy in this sense by the government, because you are forbidden, say, to smoke marijuana by yourself in your own home.

    Which I do think is an invasion of my private space, or privacy.  This thing is very similar.

    I would agree, as a libertarian, but the fact is without the gov't stepping in these things would never have happened.  People would NOT opt for the safer vehicle, they would opt for the cheaper one.  In your soul you know this to be true.

    Government is not universally evil.  It's just mostly evil.
