I think the only *decent* solution to this issue is to expand fair use to cover all non-commercial use (as the Pirate parties generally propose). That's why I blog about it:-)
I think there is only one decent solution to this issue, which is the dramatic expansion of fair use rights to all non commercial use. Go after folks making money from piracy, and I don't think anyone will complain.
But a free internet is too important to leave to Hollywood.
I wonder if it's because, in theory, they have some of the more liberal laws when it comes to internet freedom. After all, my understanding was that what the Pirate Bay was doing was perfectly legal in Sweden...in theory.
If I were the U.S. entertainment industry and also a stupid douchebag, I might well target Sweden first for that reason.
I really expect some kind of Android derivative desktop OS to be popular by 2020.
btw am I the only one who would like to see OSS repos become common on Android? Play store is all fine and good, but I prefer to run software where I can see the source.
A couple things. The ethical way to protest a law by breaking it is publicly--that's civil disobedience.
It would be great if we could get everybody in America to pirate openly. We're on the way there. I think that would take care of the problem. It's why I teach people to pirate all the time.
Second, I think some copyright is good, we just need to narrow the scope to what is really offensive--people breaking the GPL comes to mind. Commercial use of art without permission is also offensive to most people. For example, if someone had used the Beatles "Let It Be" in a used car commercial the week it came out without permission, most people would find that inherently immoral.
But by narrowing the problems to people who commercially benefit from free copying they wouldn't need or want to sue absolutely everybody.
For what it's worth, I go on and on about this in the blog in my sig.
Well, first off, you can't actually announce that you're buying a Senator. It is much like accusing a care salesman of dishonesty--you will never see someone get so offended--and of course, they are all crooked as hell.
However, if you play the game right, you call it a Public Interest PAC, and do the same thing.

I think that's a great idea.

However, I do think *eventually* fair use rights weill be expanded to include all non-commercial use. That's why I blog about it (see my sig
I believe the only *decent* solution is to expand fair use rights to all non-commercial use of copyrighted material.
:-)
Yeah I'm totally trying to start a movement, my blog is in my sig.
uh, why do we care about this?
I'm being serious...can't say I've ever looked up an ISBN.

Agreed.
I could see Google forking Android over this, at some point.
After all, it seems pretty clear to me that the really big Linux Desktop is going to be some Android variant, and probably in the fairly near future.
dude, yeah, totally. friggin preposterous, at this point.
Maybe when we can code using vague spoken English instructions. Then we won't need a keyboard. That's a ways away, yet.
That's why it's going to be a variant of Android (linux) on the desktop. I think by 2020 it will be quite common.
Android is going to take over the world.

A) that is pretty fucking cool. not what i expected at all.
B) I love the idea that if you stop pedaling you die! 'course they're pussing out staying just above the ground..."test" indeed.
I think you were just looking at the list of *recent* apps :-)
It threw me for a minute, too.
Hey that's swell, thanks!
Yeah the number of apps is low, but that's cuz we need to port more OSS apps to the droid.

Anybody can complain to anybody about anything. That's all that's really happened here so far.
The site owner needs to let them take it to court if they have any balls.

Can I mod this "depressing"?

There are forms to be followed, however.
I really think you need to learn to question your assumptions.
:-p
Well, first off, you don't actually *tell* them you want to talk about politics. ;-)
Second, what you are saying is the truth everywhere, more or less. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
You don't have to "fix the entire system" to do some good. Merely doing some good is good!
So you know this for a fact and therefore advocate doing nothing?
Seriously man?
When will people understand that this is what P2P is for?
Geez, pirate properly guys....
Clearly, you need to run for office.
Here's how you start--start talking to your neighbors. All of them.
I'm being serious.
So...why do you stay with them?
;-)
Who's stupid now?
