I think most people have to go through a phase of internet addiction to learn how much it sucks--and I classify being clued to a smartphone in that category.
Probably no need to lie. Do what I do--this is 1990's tech but it still works great. Make a section of your resume where you state what you *want* to do--and do it in white on white.
Yes, seriously. It will get you past the automated filters so that you can at least get rejected by a human.
And once you're in the system, maybe you can fix it....
Before you get too high on non-lethal weapons, please consider the taser. The problem with non-lethal weapons is that the users know this, and are thereupon much more likely to actually use them. And obviously, they don't just use them when they really need them.
Non-lethal to my mind equals "let's use physical force to control people more often".
I am a longtime Torque user (see my free game http://www.singularityfps.com) and I must say it is the best prototyping tool out there, at minimum. But in recent years the inexpensive licenses did not include source, which is essential if you're really serious about making a game.
And that was a big deal because the community on the GG forums are one of the biggest benefits to using the engine.
I think the only decent solution is to expand fair use rights to cover all non-commercial use.
If nothing else, that would reduce the target profile only to those who actually use copyrighted material to make money without authorization, which I think most people feel is innately wrong.
I don't think that's sufficient. People must be free to transfer data as they please. Expand fair use to cover all non-commercial use and I'd be happy.
Nah, just a typical kid.

Dude, you need to get it through your head that yes...
the earth will be fine, but this is happening so FAST, that *we* may not.
You said yourself that previously it took tens of thousands of years (which is still pretty fast), but here we're talking a few decades.
The earth could bitchslap us bigtime.
Well, in the past there wasn't something happening like an ice cap melting.
Also, maybe the thing to do is figure out wtf to do. First you have to admit you have a problem....

It's not like /. couldn't use some improvement.
Oh yes, I understand all that. I just wouldn't have been willing for someone to potentially get killed just to keep my job.
Sorry.

So...you never told anyone outside the company about it???
You need to understand what people really do in order to innovate.
Otherwise, how else do you know what needs improvement?
Except that then the big guys would just band together to shut out little guys.
So I disagree.
Get rid of software patents altogether.
Mod parent up.
Assange may be a douchebag, but you can't deny he has the courage of his convictions.
This is obviously the right way for our society to go.
Of course. How else are you going to justify trillion dollar "defense" budgets?
Right?
I means you're giving money to the enemy :-)
(at grossly inflated rates, as well)
Except that these guys are sucking huge amounts of cash out of the market without providing anything of value.
No wonder the market has been flat for ten years.

I am well pleased by this move.
I'm going to have to start checking out your blog.
:-)
I agree completely, of course.
I think the solution is to expand fair use to include all non-commercial copying, which is what I blog about
Your personal convictions are not, obviously, convictions at all.
lol I think they just weren't content with the mere few millions they got.
I mean who can live on that?
I hadn't considered this. Well said.

Android (or more likely some variant) on the desktop in a big way ftw by 2020.
Makes sense, thanks.
