The question comes down to... Is it smart to operate a two ton piece of metal flying down the road at speeds excess of 5 miles per hour while you are just a "little" distracted, perhaps only using one hand to operate the vehicle, etc.?
If someone is addicted to heroine, instead of treating it as a criminal act, treat the person, treat the addiction. Someone should necessarily have to rot in jail, provided they committed no other crime. Try to get them cured from the addiction, which is the primary problem.
Shouldn't these track and field events be a place where we humans can come together and show how far we're able to push our natural limitations without body modification?
Without body modification, I mean without introducing drugs or mechanical advantages into our bodies. To show how far we can go "naturally".
Rules are rules, and the sport has their own governing authority deciding what is and isn't okay.
1. Logically, if she had a sex change, this would be a modification to her body. How is this any different from doping?
2. Logically, if she was born that way, without any drug inducements, the question is, is she considered male or female?
As someone pointed out, males tend to be thought of producing sperm, and females producing ova. But, where does that leave those who don't fit that definition?
Look at one's chromosomes, and whether one's body is producing the hormones that tend to make one male or female. Is she an underdeveloped male, or is she an underveloped female? This may be an oversimplification, but don't males have more testosterone that estrogen, and females more estrogen than testosterone?
All in all, it comes down to how the governing authority of the sport defines it.
But, what about customer help centers and automated systems?... Please press 1 to speak to an agent. Press 2 to go to your account. Press 3 if you are are dialing from a rotary phone.... If you have failed to push any numbers. Please hang up and try again.
To the grandparent poster: I'd imagine it would be a nightmare for the helpdesk staff, if they had to deal with students needing help with understanding a new operating system. The best bet would be, as you said, if it came preinstalled on new computers, but with one difference, if those new computers were used for certain software needing a more powerful system. I'm thinking video editing and the like.
To the parent poster: You can't make XP stick around forever? That sounds like a challenge!
A last thought: I wonder how many of us have a Nintendo 64 sitting around still.
"Sex offender" is such a broad term. It could mean rape, or it could mean something less than rape. What I'd like to see is a judge putting restrictions on what someone can and cannot do during the sentencing process, rather than our legislators mandating things like that.
But doing laws like this makes the legislators look like they're doing something effective. Who would vote for a legislator who sat around and did nothing?
To fear or not to fear Linux: that is the question.
Whether Microsoft will see Linux as a threat and continue providing OEM versions of XP, or if they hope Windows 7 will be superior to our penguin alternative.
Yeah. Perhaps 7 is greater than Vista. But, I doubt 7 will be necessarily greater than XP. I wish Microsoft would spend more time perfecting XP, but thankfully you can still get XP via OEM.
Personally, I think speed and performance will be the key to any new OS, not necessarily features.
In some places, yes, that would be correct. Segways can't necessarily be grouped in with bicycles, depending on law. So explicitly banning bicycles isn't necessarily a ban on segways.
Also, segways, unlike electric bikes, I'd imagine are much easier to steer in "crowded" areas.
Even if it were $500, would there be a big enough demand for one? Maybe in some areas. I can think of a few places. Perhaps college campuses where walking from point A to point B might take 20 minutes or more. Or large mall areas. But, in everyday use, who would need one, if simple walking and bicycling suffices?
When you can have the government think for you? Oh, wait, you don't want me to type that in? You don't want me to type this in either? Then what should I type in?
I don't wish to get into a big debate about possible theories of evolution. But, I have to ask, are the trees creating a variety of possible offspring, in which one will best survive? Or do they have some sort of conscious decision in their evolutionary path?
It's not like they come out with a new console every few years. Oh, wait, they do. Whatever happens to the old ones, and where will they be a few decades from now? I hope console makers make a conscious decision to do better.

And just because I'm an American who spells colour, honour, behaviour, etc. with the letter "u", doesn't mean I'm British.

Suspects doesn't equal convicts.

I may regret mentioning this...
512MB of RAM,
4MB of shared video I believe,
900MHz processor.
That assumes my computer has the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 7, which it doesn't.

For speed, I'm thinking about fast it takes to perform certain tasks. For performance, how well it handles under certain loads.

Bicycles aren't allowed in all places and times though.

licking keyboards were bad.
Perhaps it would take too much energy to change itself. If it's not broken, why fix it?
Or, maybe it thinks the bird still exists, and that it's doing an incredible job. How would it know the bird is gone?
That's a good thing though. It will give future robots something to do while they clean up the planet.
