    Except that under Linux it's because of caching and gets freed up as soon as it's needed.

    Just use bitlbee.

    It's an IRC to IM gateway, and allows you to check for MSN/ICQ/AOL messages instead of being disturbed by it while doing something...

    That recompile of modules is just a security from the kernel - it doesn't want to load modules not compiled for it with the exact same compiler version. Otherwise the behaviour of the module can't be certain...

    So if you switch from gcc 3.3.1 to 3.3.1-r1 or something, you compile your new nvidia module with it, then you *also* need to recompile your kernel, otherwise the module won't load...

    Really, this is the same for every kernel module, so I don't know what the big deal is with that nvidia module bitching all the time...

    It's a chicken or the egg problem - gamers won't switch to linux/mac due to very little games, game producers won't make games for linux/mac due to very little gamers.

    I think there's a trend of the 'better' gaming companies to break through this circle. Another advantage is that at the time that Mac and *nix *will* have mature gaming support, they already have a significant advantage over competitors due to their experience with porting those games...

    According to the copyright laws of the US, you can "import" things from outside the US, even if they violate US law if purchased here. As long as it's legit where you get it, and you import it for your personal use, you're OK.

    Great! Living in The Netherlands, guess I'm gonna tell this at some US friends of mine who want to import some marijuana... it's legal here!

    Sure, programmers will be extinct within the near future in Western countries. But there's a difference between programming and software engineering; I personally think that software engineering will still take place in the western countries, the whole documentation, analysing, quality assurance, perhaps testing... the whole process of developing software except the programming will still occur in Western countries... let the code monkeys in India have it, anyone can write code, but they will still need a good software engineer to develop a piece of quality software. :-)

    Not even that, but try to link to a site that's a bit more descriptive about what it actually is. It's a long time ago I've seen such a bad 'What is >?' site. It immediately starts of with technical details, that it has a power chord, etc.

    What the hell is it ? Is it a PDA ? Is it a notebook ? Is it the latest wannahave-gadget ?

    ... too bad that's only a very small portion of the people interrested in portable music players. They only see WMA as a format that has the same quality as MP3 at a smaller size... so this is definately a good selling point for Virgin.

    No it's not. It's irritating when the same (kind of) people always leave their mobiles running, the hip, young, gadget people having their latest top40 tune as their ring tone... now really, when some kind of polyphonic f*cked up version of Usher or whatever starts blasting at way-too-loud volume through a room, or even a cinema, i'm irritated. I turn my mobile off so I won't disturb anyone, I expect the same from others.

    Is it really necessary to be reachable while you're at the cinema ? No. And if it is necessary, you shouldn't be at the cinema.

    That's even more extreme... by just knowing one number that they print out on receipts you can access someone's bank account.
