So if my auto is recalled, it is all costs(usually) on the mfg. I'm in a mixed environment, win/mac(lose/win)... I recently had to manually update all M$ computers on the network, that all had been set to run updates at 3am once a week, due to the GAV tool had to be manually ok'd... What a JOKE! Who pays the cost for that, surly(I mean surly) not my boss.... So what would be callled a recall in most industries, is in fact fart of the TCO of M$...and I mean fart... I lost two days of productivity due to this TOOL.... I ended up working the following weekend to make up for wa$ted time... So who should pay me for fixing MS problems.... The fools (My Keepers)who bought into it, or M$ itself??? p.s. we have Mac servers that have never needed anything more than a pat on the ass, they just work.....
on the back of my black office chair on wheels... or is that my co-worker? Back in the late 60's my uncle had every automotive sticker, from STP to Hooker Headers on his bicycle, I thought it was damn cool, but I was 4 then.... everything he did was cool!
the water gets tied up... like in us... think about billions of bags of water walking around and the billions more to come.... and water can be polluted and unusable for a space of time, but you're right, it's water it can be filtered and reused, transferred etc.
You had used a web client, keep doing it if you need piece of mind that your mail is where you know it should be. If you had given more info about 'the' mail server and who hosts it, if you have any quotas to live with, I might have more to say....
I'm going to date myself here, but I used to watch Star Trek-yes Kirk, first run on TV(I was pre-school then), and have watched every series of ST since.... I am a big fan, but Star Wreck is really f@#k9n& funny, I loved it. I have a degress in film as well, didn't do squat with it, but I "know" how much work really went into making a film such as this. Nicely done.
I have to work with a lot of over-dressed and over fragranced, to the point that being in the same room is a health hazzard. I dress in clean jeans, and sweater or button down shirt. T-shirts are only for the summer months... Where is the article about high maintenance people distracting others from the job to be done?
Great Movie/story concept.... I loved it, and Soylent green! As far as story concepts:
What if AIDS was the next step in evolution?? Or maybe the planet's way of saying "stop fucking me up!" sort of population control... weeding out the weak ones? biologically speaking of course! Your genes are not up to snuff, you're out.
Sci-Fi food for thought.
Just to put my spin on this... I have worked in many industries, some manual, some intellectual. I work in IT now, and I don't quibble over platform, but will say daily "Use the best tool for the job!"
I would equate these DIYers like the first drag racers... the first road racers... and anyone who pushes their skill/hobby farther out of passion does benefit the egg heads who have the expertise, but couldn't scratch their ass with it.
To come clean, I have two powerbooks, an iMac DV running tiger server, and an old compaq presario that some one gave me running a demo W2K3 server install at the moment.
If you want to do any graphics production work, publishing, anything multi-media related, etc, the Mac is the way to go... If you need to do your spread sheets and documents and free cell, go for your win box.
win servers are not wasted. they are needed. a win server at high load, just tanks, and you get calls all day, why is mail slow, why is printing slow, why does it take over a minute to open a file?? yada yada you really need one server per service in an environment of any size (500 workstations), plus redundancy. So at least 2DC's a clutered mail/print/file system... ISA... ePO... cluster manager... back up...the list goes on, and so does the addition of win servers. So in the end win servers eat a lot of juice... the one unseen cost in TCO.
Anything but Veritas Backup Exec9.x on W2K3 A stone table and chisel would be preferred to that! And Hardware? Stay away from anything that is SCSI!!! I have been battling these, and haven't had time to really, truly learn something else, sorry moderators!
If anyone with root access needs a yellow sticker... the problem started in the interview process... Just my two euro cents worth, but then again, I worked for companies that had NO computers what so ever, so my memory works just fine...
I have been on both ends of the weight scale... I found those dizzy moments when my body was busy eating all the fat it had stored to be enlightening...
When I feel the urge to snack, it is liquid, tea some sugar.... I am good to go for another couple hours...and it is either lunch time, or quitting time...
If you fade, suck it up, and get it done.... the end of the day comes eventually
Look All,
I think this is over simplified. I have downloaded firefox 3 times for our network installation, and have deployed it hundreds of times.... so what does the download stat have to do with the real number of firefox users? 10 million downloads, x how many corperate/large network users got it through one download. Did you know that 69% of all people lie thourgh stats? Look it up, google it, or what ever...
I work in a school as an catch-all tech guy, hell desk to maintaining the damn *xchange/file cluster. It sounds like he was hired for one thing, and has been told this 'help' is his real job.... it happened where I am at, but not to me:-/ I was twisted enough to be already involved.

I really like the "guys" in the office, but interacting with a woman once in a while sounds like a novel idea!
Glad I don't have to come to a narrow minded simp like you for a job.... you sound like a spoiled brat IMO!

MacGyver Richard Dean Anderson is best known for his role as MacGyver. Get off the GUI?
this once happened here...and build a contraption large enough to block out the sun and plunge the town into complete darkness.
Send Them Back! Or I will destroy them! You know the power I have.... oh? it's free and you get screwed? There is a word for that...
...I was going to Kill myself online, and charge for it! Bill would want it that way!

one point too.... I get it all the time, and I loved the Wreck! was too funny for someone who has seen way too many reruns of all of the ST's

You are right though, he should seek assistance.
