however, there is a problem with what is called dark current. that is when there is no light hitting the transducer, and there is still a current being developed...
Isn't that great. Assuming widespread deployment of course, our military won't really have any excuse for killing large numbers of civilians in a war zone.
This is not a large number of civillians. For instance, there are still Iraqi civillians, meaning we fell short of genocide Our military never should have gotten a free pass on this to begin with, but with this technology they should get even more scrutiny.
No military has a free pass on civillian casualties. The laws of war, or the law of armed conflict http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laws_of_war/ As a society that feels we need the occasional war, we need to take a hard line on "collateral damage." We need to have target metrics for acceptable levels of collateral damage and we need to hold our military leaders accountable for exceeding them.
Americans and the Brittish have done worse in the past, along with several other countries throughout history. Might I remind you of the firebombing of Dresden in World War II Do you think [insert number of civilians your favorite study thinks got killed by us in Iraq] is acceptable? Why? How about ten times that amount? Certainly there is some number that would make you feel nauseous and fearful that this was all being done in your name?
No. No amount of civillian deaths is acceptable. It is the responsibility of the people and the leaders to protect their people. Were there actions the Iraqis in charge could have taken in order to prevent this? Yes, there were ultimatums and sanctions in place before the country was invaded. There was more process to it than just, well, its Tuesday so lets invade....*throws a dart on a map*....Uzbekistan We must hold our military accountable, and if this laser makes it so much easier for us to only hit the enemy, then the number of civilians killed in future wars sure as hell better be a lot lower than we're seeing now.
Military members are held responsible. If you personally know of a Law of War violation, I highly suggest you report it.
Sure, that is an overreaction, having the police blow up ANTRHAX. Because if there is one good thing about biological agents, they don't spread fast enough...
Easy UPS too, if the servers use DC then batteries can easily be hooked right to the power bus that feeds them. No ac-dc dc-ac ups systems. If you have a 48V server you get 4 12v lead acid batteries hook em in series and hook them in parallel with a charging resistor and discharge diode. I know its a little too simple but at least it could be easily rigged up in case of emergency.
not really, because this new power supply would need an AC in, to get a DC out to the rack, so you have the batteries yes, but you also need a more expensive inverter circut to take the however many VDC and convert it to 60Hz AC @ whatever operating voltage, 110-220 what have you....this signifigantly raises the price depending on how long you want it to last
The Buggers of course, you remember the first and second invasion, they nearly wiped us out. Now we are working to make sure this doesn't happen again...
Nowhere in anything I have dealt with for the government when classifying information, does it ever mention to alert media outlets that I am doing so. Is this some new procedure I am unaware of?
Quick, we all have to be trained on it....
Sorry, but as civillians, and not in a standing military organization, nor clearly wearing uniforms to distinguish themselves from standard citizens, those who enter combat under such means are unlawful combatants.
They get treated differently under LOAC [law of armed conflict] because they are not prisoners of war, but rather unlawful combatants.
There are actually several operating voltages coming off the transformer even when it is off, IR rx, of course, and a small dreaw for the degaussing coil, which most modern televisions have....and a few other ones, damn its been too long since i went to TV school
Is there anyone who can still read about a projected loss and still find it even remotely believable?

has anyone actually seen these in the states?
the only ones I know of are on military bases for government vehicles...
"No soup for you!"

Seriously, If you are selling or giving an OS, is it that bad to bundle a browser of your choosing?
If M$ bundled firefox,or opera, or even an ancient version of netscape, would there be such an uproar? This article is simply FUD.

Would you like to play Global Themal Nuclear War?
a strategy that could accelerate a shift to Web-based computing doesn't this sound just a little bit like a dumb terminal in terms of computing?

a DC-AC converter isn't that complex of a piece of circuitry, just use a charging capacitor, and a simple wave shaping circuit....
Corruption has what to do with the large amount of contractors and construction workers who had a 'liquid lunch' at a lot of bars in town?
yeah, though you have to go in and break off the nipple first before disposal of a CRT, if you want to do it the legit way and what not...

90 degrees of separation between the e and h fields of an antenna means im safe from at least one, right?
Ah, so we moved from wireless computers, and on to chained ones...not daisy chains, just heavy metal chains... ah the wonders of technology
